Some one might get lucky, and an aftermarket may work, but not often, and not worth the risk. CPS problems can be hard starting, rough idle, making it seem the throttle isn't responding. Dying for no reason. If the throttle truly isn't working, then it could be the throttle position sensor. But it ran for a few weeks, so I doubt that to be an issue. Believe me, there are days I wish for a car without any sensors or fuel injection, or anything other than old fashion mechanical. Then, I remember, replacing points, accelerator pumps, plugs, coils, voltage regulators, and such, so as they say, **** happens.....
Worth noting, the guy I was speaking with at Mercedes yesterday was saying that there was a recall on the OEM CPS recently.... so, if you bought a part two years ago, there's a good chance it's a dud (or will fail just like the other one did). He said unfortunately, many dealers liquidated their old stock to smaller vendors, so the "genuine" articles we're buying on eBay may not be the latest & greatest.

This was all discussed as I was trying to help him diagnose the idle issue on the car I just sold... When I was telling him everything I replaced, he asked about the CPS. I told him I changed it in May, he said "where did you get it?" and I told him the forum. That's when he shared the above information with me.

Take it with a grain of salt... but in this case, buy the current-level stock from a dealership you trust... not eBay.

Cheers,

WOW that's good to know. I have a "spare" Bosch CPS sitting in the box as a "just in case mine fails" part. It is likely one of those recalled units. I will look into that recall and try to get some details. Maybe Mercedes will swap out this part for the upgraded part??

Never buy electronic parts on Ebay... it's usually someone's discounted out dated parts someone has liquidated. Or, worse yet, Chinese knock offs. Better to go direct to a parts source even if they have to order it...

It's worth asking... but I'd speculate that unless you have a receipt from that dealer, they won't do an even swap with another part. Service departments exist for one reason only -- to make residual money off the customer

Always a good practice to follow.

OLEDOC2U:

i MENTIONED THESE OTHER PROBLEMS BECAUSE HIS PROBLEMS SOUNDED LIKE THINGS i SAW BEFORE. i HAVE NEVER HAD THE CPS DIE BEFORE. SOUNDS LIKE A LOT OF THE SAME CHARACTERISTICS. ALL THINGS SUGGESTED ARE EASY TO CHECK AND COST NOTHING EXCEPT FOR THE BATTERY. IF THE BATTERY IS OVER 3YEARS OLD PROBABLY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED ANYWAY.

DONOT MEAN TO CAUSE A PROBLEM FOR THE GUY, BUT THE PROBLEM SOUNDED VERY MUCH LIKE THE PROBLEMS i HAD WHEN i CHANGED THE tb AND REWORKED THE MAF. I JUST READ WHERE A CATCH CAN WAS FULL AND LETTING OIL GO INTO THE INTAKE AND SCREWD UP THE MAF SENSOR.

SORRY DID NOT MEAN TO IRRITATE.

Thanks for all the comments and answers. Going to start with the CPS today found a Bosch one locally. Also going to switch out the battery I have an optima laying around. Also going to check for a sprit booster and a vacum leak let's see if one of these do not correct the issue and go from there. If not I will provably try and contact rob from needswings and see if I chat setup an appointment to tow the car to him.

Good Luck . . . Rob at Needswings would certainly be the man who could get your Crossfire back on track . . .

So I've replaced the battery.
New sensor for the CPS (Bosch)
New camshaft sensor (not Bosch) plan on replacing again.
Checked the gas pedal.

Going to try the maf sensor and the catch can if I can figure that out. I have no idea about to just trade this sucker going to try to contacting rob at needswings after that it's getting traded in.

I would certainly hope that you would not trade the car off because there is probably nothing major wrong. Checking that the hoses are connected and not leaking is pretty simple. If you had the TB off I would think the "O" ring at the TB/MAF is pinched or not installed correctly. You would probably do a" Throttle RESET",
also simple to do ( do a search). These cars are very durible and normally trouble free( we usually cause most of the problems).
