Default Rear License Plate Holder

The screws are stripped on the rear License Plate location on my SRT 6. Does not appear to be a very good design. Does anyone have a fix for this? It's been a while since I've visited the forum. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Cheers,

Mj

You can go to Harbor Freight or Northern Tool and get a set that puts threaded studs into holes.
The sets come with various sizes, pop a couple in and use appropriate machine screws to attach the tag.

Loctite makes an epoxy thread repair kit. Loctite® Form-A- Thread® Stripped Thread Repair - Henkel
I've used it for heavier repairs than yours and it's excellent.

They sell the little threaded inserts for license plate holes for like $2 at AutoZone too. Ask me how I know It really is a poor design.

Put the plastic plugs use for dry wall in the holes and that should cinch up nice and tight when you screw the screws in.

For mine, I'd have to drill the plate to get a larger screw in there. Plus it'd probably just crop up again later. This way I just replace the inserts if they strip out...

My rear bumper was drilled using a drill bit that was about 1/2 the size of the license plate holes. So when one of mine stripped out, a slightly larger screw worked for me. Every dealer must have drilled the bumpers to accept the plate during the cars dealer prep, thus there was no standard size for all the cars.
Fortunately they never drilled my front bumper for a plate, even though it's required here in Ohio. But then I did purchase my car new from a dealer in Kentucky. (I guess size doesn't matter there).

Thanks for all the response. Lot of good ideas. I had hoped that maybe Chrysler had a kit or something like that. Nonetheless, thanks for the response ad your time.

Cheers,

Mj

Here's a bunch of options. Scroll down to see the inserts. They expand when the screw is inserted.
