Ground Control kits are ready!!!
Re: Ground Control kits are ready!!!
The car and parts are in the shop already. I did inventory of what arrived, unwrapped a few things to take a look and put them back in the box. I figured the prior picture couldn't be improved on. I can enlighten everyone a bit. The shocks I got are rebound adjustable, mono tube Koni gas filled race shocks. Valved for the springs chosen for my application. (racing) The springs I received are 1200 lb front and 900 rear. The rears are 2-1/2" diameter I think. Could be 2-1/4. The attachment is via a rectangular piece that goes on the bottom of the rear control arm with a bolt though the hole that holds the threaded adjuster in place. Threaded onto it is the perch. It appears to have 4" or more of adjustment. All the rear links except the sway bar links have a rubber boot to keep dirt out of the heim joints. Big plus. No instructions were included but for the most part, looking at the parts and what's on the car already answers most of the questions. The front springs are wider and longer and have a weight jacking system that protrudes out the bottom of the A-arm. Looks really easy to change the height. The rear is a bit harder I think because the adjuster is in the depression of the rear control arm. Far easier than the K&W's though. I'm having the height set the same as what I have now. Then I'll play with the height myself to see how low I can go etc. Before the next race the car will at it's final height and corner weighted. While the car is at the shop, I'm having a 3:27 diff installed. Big week for me and my car!

Re: Ground Control kits are ready!!!
Doc, no bumps in the install for the kit and diff means I'll hit the short track next week. Well, weather permitting. Visually the Ground Control kit checks all the boxes. It looks to have tons of adjustment up and down, plus and minus, etc. I LOVE the rubber boots covering the Heim joints. Then it's a matter of hitting the track and nailing down the alignment. High on my list is a critique of the street manners. Especially on broken, patched, nasty street surfaces. That's what the majority will want to hear about. Keeping in mind that I have the most aggressive firmest springs that will be offered to masochists.

Re: Ground Control kits are ready!!!
Sorry if these are stupid questions but I'm not experienced will all the suspension terminology or with working on suspension components . . .
So regarding the anticipated Ground Control kits, they are noted as follows:
Ground Control Crossfire/SLK R170 Suspension Package.
Coilover Conversion Kit $599.00
Coilover Conversion Kit w/ Koni Sport Dampers $1299.00
Coilover Conversion Kit w/ Koni Race Dampers $1499.00
The Coilover Conversion Kit $599.00 This kit provides four "coil over" shocks that replace the OEM shocks. The new shocks have a coil spring mounted at the top, right? These "coil overs" are intended to function with the original OEM coil springs remaining installed, right?
then on these kits:
Coilover Conversion Kit w/ Koni Sport Dampers $1299.00
Coilover Conversion Kit w/ Koni Race Dampers $1499.00
"Sport Dampers" or "Race Dampers" . . . "Dampers" means coil springs, right?
So with these kits you also get new coil springs that replace the OEM springs, right? The Race Dampers (or springs) are stiffer than the Sport Dampers (or springs). Race dampers (according to Les) are 1200 lb front and 900 lb rear and Sport spring ratings are somewhat less but the actual spring ratings have not yet been announced, right?
And from the photos posted it also looks like these full kits include adjustable rear camber arms . . . is that right?
Thanking the suspension experts for responding and clarifying these things for me . . .

Re: Ground Control kits are ready!!!
The basic kit includes the coil springs and mounting system. The front is height adjustable with a 17mm bolt that you access through the hole in the A-arm. The rear adjuster is at the top but can be adjusted rather easily with a wrench provided. The adjustments should be made with weight off the wheel being adjusted. It does away with the stock coil spring and spring rubber.
The dampers are the shocks. My understanding is they have different springs for stock shocks, basic Koni yellows or KYB's, then the Koni Sport and Race shocks.
In other words, it's completely customizable. You can get a luxury ride kit, a sport upgrade, or kidney busting full race crazy.

Re: Ground Control kits are ready!!!
Since the springs and the shocks are separate pieces on our cars, the term coilover is somewhat misleading.
The springs they are selling appear to be coil springs used in coilover conversions for other cars. But on our cars, they will still be separate from the shocks.
Dampers are the proper term for shocks. Those are still mounted separately from the springs they sell you.

Re: Ground Control kits are ready!!!
OK - Thanks for the responses . . . so each of the three Ground Control kit options include four shocks and four coil springs that will replace all four of the OEM shocks AND all four of the OEM springs, right? Just different spring ratings and different shock stiffness in each of the three kits, right?
Where do those curved adjustable rear camber arms (shown in the photo Les posted) come in? Are those just available / sold separately from the kits?
Can someone please post photos of the Ground Control Suspension INSTALLED on their car? I think that would help me understand the conversion that the kits provide.

Re: Ground Control kits are ready!!!
The way I understand it, the $599 Coilover Convert kit I believe are only the springs that are supplied to those who already have Konis. It will convert the Konis into coilovers and will replace the OEM springs. These also make the setup height adjustable if I'm understanding correctly! Hopefully the cambers are included with this kit also. We won't really know until Donovan gets off his tookus and makes the kits available on the site, which will probably be after Christmas the way things move there!!!
