Suddenly no brake lights-anybody else?
Suddenly no brake lights-anybody else?
Hey all....Lost all brake lights over the week end. Everything else works fine and no idiot lights on. I have been doing some research and it seems the SRT-6 uses a special brake system that does not have a conventional brake light switch down at the pedal. Possible I may need a new brake booster?! Has anybody else had a problem like this? HELP!

DESCRIPTION
The plunger type brake lamp switch is mounted to a bracket attached to the brake pedal assembly under the instrument
panel. The brake lamp switch cannot be adjusted or repaired. If faulty, worn, or damaged, the entire unit must
be replaced.
OPERATION
The brake lamp switch has three internal switches with a single, six blade harness connection at one end. When the
brake pedal is in the released position, the plunger on the outside of the brake lamp switch is forced inward, which
opens the circuit. When the brake pedal is pressed the plunger is released, and the circuit is closed. This action
completes the brake lamp circuit, and allows the brake lamps and center high mounted brake lamp to illuminate.
The booster has nothing to do with it.
Re: Suddenly no brake lights-anybody else?
Seems that description you sent apply's to a non-srt crossfire. My brake light switch has only 1 plug(with 3 wires) where as the non srt apparently uses 2 plugs (with 3 wires on each). I have already changed the brake light switch and checked bulbs and fuses related to the stop lights. Also replaced a sensor in the booster which made no difference either. Do appreciate the quick reply. Any other ideas?

OPERATION
The Brake Lamp Switch is integrated with the BAS Solenoid Valve. As the brake pedal is applied, the brake switch
is activated and a signal is sent to the CAB module. The CAB then grounds the coil side of the brake lamp relay.
This action completes the brake lamp circuit, and allows the brake lamps and Center High Mounted Stop Lamp to
illuminate. When the brake pedal is released, the plunger returns to its rested position, and the brake lamp relay is
de-energized. As the relay is de-energized, the brake lamps are again returned to their off state.

Re: Suddenly no brake lights-anybody else?
Same exact thing happened to me a couple years ago when I went to get it inspected. I ended up taking it to a shop who had to trace the electric. They said it is a mess how many of the systems in our car are tied together. After a few days and a few hundred bucks (which was cheap for the time they put in) they figured it out. It was a break relay, as I recall somewhere around the back passenger portion of the engine compartment. Sorry I can't be more specific, but if you can get an electrical diagram of the car you can probably track it down easy enough and replace it cheap

They are at the rear of the under hood accessory box which is by the fender behind the antilock brake stuff.
( The one on the right is the alarm relay )
