Default Screaming Noise

So this morning on my way to work, my SRT-6 suddenly began screaming. The noise was embarrassingly loud, high pitched, constant at any speed / RPM, not really a screech like a belt though. After a mile or two, it stopped just as abruptly as it started and the car sounded and drove as normal for the rest of the trip. Thoughts? Mileage is right at 79k.

Most likely an idler bearing on the serpentine belt, or the tensioner.
Could be the SC clutch or bearings too.
Water pump ?
Alternator ?
Power steering pump ?

My wife screams every time I punch it off the line. It is not a pleasant noise.

If you are running the stock pulley setup and have never changed the SC Idler pulley. That would be my first guess. It's the little one to the left (looking from the front) of the Main SC pulley.

Your idler pulley is the very likely culprit. The bearing is likely shot. Search for my thread on this subject from this winter. Good luck!

If it screams at every start up and while stopped at red lights it "could" be the secondary air injection hose has popped off the pump. Mine was driving me crazy until I saw the hose unplugged. Plugged it in and no more screaming. Of course, yours could be another type of scream.

My roadster would make a hideous noise about 20% of the time. Once I installed latemodel21's PSK, no more issues. I bet it is the idler pulley.

Took it in to the shop yesterday and told them to check the idler pulley first. You guys were right on the money. Also replaced a busted motor mount which I was expecting based on what I've read here about movement in the shifter. Front brakes were nearly gone so I got those done. Throw in a pair of wiper blades. Everything OEM. $1,188. I love my car, so it's all good. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
