I've driven the G8 GXP and own an Srt 6. (both stock). The Srt6 is more fun to drive, and feels a little faster. (real-world driving, didn't have timers or anything). However, the GXP is insanely impressive considering it's a 4-door luxury car! It actually does a pretty good job of not feeling heavy (even though it still is). Now, a Camaro, that is slow AND feels heavy. Love the engine's sound though as the variable 4-8 cylinders makes it growl at any rpm. (My father-in-law used to test drive vehicles for GM, so I got to compare the GXP and the Camaro to my Srt6.) I'll take my Srt6 any day.

^^^ This.

The G8 is a car I wouldn't exactly kick out of the garage. I think they look fantastic, and you can't beat their aftermarket support. They can be made into real beasts. That being said, I've beaten every one I've lined up against at the track... So apparently the "heavily" modded ones are rare, at least in my area.

They sound fantastic and I'd seriously consider one if I was in the market for a sedan.

That was a fun read. Thanks.

If I HAD to have a 4-dr fun car, I would definitely consider a G8 GT.

Can't argue with the desire for a G8 (GT or GXP). When we were in the market for another car, I was really trying to buy a G8 so the family could fit into my "sports car". They were out of my price range. The wife reminded me that this car would be mainly for me and her since we have a Durango for "family time". My search then went from a sedan to a two seater. Completely forgot about the Xfire since I don't see them everyday, so my eyes were set on a Vette. Again, not in my price range. She found a Xfire and really liked the styling of it and then she ran across the SRT. The rest is history. Best HP for $ I found. Couldn't pass it up. And it was mainly her idea - she's the greatest!

Good read!

That's funny, my wife talked me into getting my Srt6 too! (It was my dream car since it came out, but I never really thought I'd buy a sports car 'cause it would be "irresponsible".) When my old car died a year ago, I told her we'd get her a car and I'd drive her old car. Instead, she told me to get the Srt6 since she knew how badly I wanted it. We actually argued about it, me trying to be responsible, and her wanting me to have my dream car. She convinced me when she said, "We don't have kids yet, so if you're ever gonna get it, now's the time!" I'm blessed with an awesome wife too. (and the good news is, we were just able to replace her old car too, so I don't have to feel guilty about my Srt6 anymore). lol

Same story here. The wife had always pointed out the Xfire everytime one went by. I had just gone through my 2nd Pathfinder and was looking for a 3rd one when she says that she saw a nice XF for sale. Knowing what they originally cost, I said no way, until she showed me the ad. Went and did my normal research and said why not. Call the dealer to see if it was still available and drove down to have a look. As I'm pulling in the car was being sold. It figures I said and off we go to the AMC dealer down the street to look at a Pathfinder he had. I pull in and there by the showroom entrance sits a 2005 XF Graphite Limited. Being mister conservative I figured she was perfect with the better gas mileage and all. The car was a dream come true and ran flawlessly. Couple years later the wifes 96 Bonneville SE goes belly up (300,000 miles) and I start searching for something a little more practical. But her idea was for me to give her the XF and find myself what I wanted (which was a SL55 and way out of my price range). After much searching I gravitated back to the XF, looking specifically for any SRT6s out there. I found one in all the state online and bought it site unseen, except for the pics on the site. Hard to believe I own 2 XFs but they are by far the best running and most mechanically sound cars I have ever owned (knocks on wood).

By the way, We've always loved the Pontiacs. Her Bonny ran strong for all them years and was sold to the neighbor across the street. A few minor repairs and she still runs (and looks) great. There's just no killing those Buick 3.8 V6s. I even considered the G8 GT & the GTO but they were a little out of my price range at the time. Still I will never complain....!!!

That was a good read. My SRT was fast stock. Now with all the normal mods its like a whole new car and scary power when it brakes loose. Biggest problem now is keeping the tires on the ground. The back end is so light it can't handle all that torque. I see all these guys around town that just don't know. I'm itching to eat a 350z or Camaro SS.

I would seriously consider a Pontiac G8 GXP in the future. Its a Caddy CTS-V rebranded. Wolf in sheep's clothing.

It is exactly a Holden

And its nice reading about you guys and your supportive wives. My girlfriend thought it was completely irresponsible and always kind of made fun of my love for my car... but now she's the ex girlfriend and I get to focus my time and energy on my first love!

I guess "into my car" should be on the long list of criteria for any potential future suitors... or better yet, as some of the previous posts have stated is possible: "encourages me to blow my money on a car and not on jewelry"

THATS RIGHT!! Jewelry could never drive you across state lines...it'll just sit there looking pretty (much like the ex-girlfriend I bet)

My wife also "talked" me into purchasing my Crossfire. When ol' faithful finally bit the dust, she used her stealthy Vulcan logic on me. She said, "Our kids are grown and have lives and families of their own now. We are empty nesters now. We are not hauling our babies around anymore. Its time to downsize from the SUV's...station wagons and minivans. Get something YOU want and would love to drive! Its time to enjoy life and not just live it!..

Gotta love her!!
