SRT-6 is not liking to get on it
SRT-6 is not liking to get on it
Okay so normally driving around town with the car being fresh and not been running for an hour or so... the car will get up and go just fine and move very quickly but..... I have noticed when I have been on trips just 45 minutes some times or longer (upwards of 2 hours) I will put the throttle down to go around someone and the RPM's go up and the car just barely reacts and very slowly starts accelerating almost at an unsafe speed when trying to get out of the way. Although then it will move just fine later and have no problems its as if its here and then gone.
I have no great knowledge of what could cause this being new to this car. I have tried putting it in the slap shift mode thinking it was just not dropping into gear but it still didn't move then. Any help I? I am no mechanic and I don't know how to go about correcting this.

Re: SRT-6 is not liking to get on it
yes, IC (intercooler) pump. It is located at the front bottom corner of the passanger side behind the fog light. The supercharger clutch cuts off if the coolant gets too hot in the IC. Sounds like this is what you are experiencing. These pumps go out every few years. Easy and cheap fix. Upgrade to a johnson CP30
Re: SRT-6 is not liking to get on it
Sounds like the IC pump as I recently changed mine and had the same symptoms. It may be "easy" but not fun because you are not modding it out - boring maintenance! Get hose clamps....do not plug the hoses with something as bad things can happen...just saying.
Re: SRT-6 is not liking to get on it
Well I was just looking at the Johnson pump and was wandering how tough it is to replace? Pretty simple?
And heck I havent had the car in the summer yet to know how it will be in the extreme heat of Texas so I am looking to upgrades possibly.. the cooling package that NW has possibly? If I am going to make sure it stays cool then sounds like an option to go with...

Re: SRT-6 is not liking to get on it
Do some research and choose the pump that you feel most comfortable with. I have my own thoughts with the hi-flow Johnson pump, but I'm not an engineer, so I won't elaborate. Personally, I'm using a Bosch from the Ford Lightning and its been working we for 60k+ miles. Also, don't forget to check the fuse.

Performance auto parts & aftermarket auto accessories for your car, specializing SRT4, Crossfire SRT6, SLK32, C32 AMG, VR-4. He has the stock Bosch pump in stock. The 1st gens had problems.
Re: SRT-6 is not liking to get on it
There's an upgraded version of the stock pump available, direct plug & play. I got mine for $122.00 shipped.
Mercedes Auxiliary Water Pump - Bosch (OEM) 0392022010 | FCP Euro
I had the same symptoms and replaced mine this past weekend. Installation was pretty easy and took less than an hour from start to clean-up. It seems to have solved the issue.

Re: SRT-6 is not liking to get on it
There's a different pump people use, the MB one Witchal linked is new to me. Lots of people, myself included tomorrow, use the Johnson IC pump from I believe the Ford Lightings with good results. I would bet my cat on it being your pump. Save yourself a few grand and just order the part today and install it yourself. Should solve the problem.
Re: SRT-6 is not liking to get on it
Well I gave in and ordered the Johnson CM30 and went a little further and bought the cooling package from Needwings as well.. So that turns out to be a super cooler, the pump, the ic isolation kit, and the chill charger fluid. Maybe I went too far but I mean it was just so dang tempting. ha

Re: SRT-6 is not liking to get on it
With all the problems people have with the OEM IC pump, I'm thinking that I will change mine out before it gives a problem. I am assuming that it still has the original pump in it. Even if it was changed I would think that it is still the old design.
I have a used Johnson as a spare but I'll ignore it I and replace with a new Bosch from NW. Does that seem the smartest thing to do? I am running the IC separation kit.
