See what a friend of mine saw on the road
Re: See what a friend of mine saw on the road
To me the SLK is a better looker, better looking interior, girls love it and ask for rides all the time and the convertible/hard top roadster mode is fantastic. Plus from what I see on this and the mb forums the Crossfire has more interior quality problems that the mb's dont have save the crappy seat heaters.
Also, please explain why Steve's seat heater failed just like mine if they are so different?
And the one thing you MB fans can have back is that absolute crap rubber paint on the consoles that MB used forever, stuff peels when you look at it wrong...
Re: See what a friend of mine saw on the road
Ask Steve how all those car shows went with a highly modified SLK next to some crossfires, or just John's LMAO. Steve knows his stuff better than most here, but will certainly agree on this point, the XF generates MUCH more interest than the MB - no questions there, or as you put it, nope.
Although, Steve's current car has NO issues getting looks. Puts the "P" in "panty dropper". Now if we can get Steve to wear Pumas, he might cut a decent ET
Regarding the badge debate, if your ability to survive judgment is >/= to the number of additional badges on your car, do whatever floats your boat. Sure the purists get pissed, but IMO a bigger problem in America is the fad of skinny jeans on large women. That's much more offensive and widespread.
As mentioned in another thread, a majority of people that judge others for badges are paying huge payments on a "pedigreed" car they can barely afford. Which begs the question, who is posing harder?
Re: See what a friend of mine saw on the road
I also like this line of thinking, and while I do not pretend to know anyone's financial situation, I would rather have a 'poser', show winning car that is paid off collecting dust in my garage than driving some high dollar car I can barely afford year round. This is not intended for the SLK guys who frequent here, but for other $100K+ cars I see around town, pulling into McMansions with 50 year mortgages LMAO

See point above, and I would be HAPPY to park next to you at any show and see what happens I may be slower, but definitely not hard on the eyes of any show go-ers I have spoken with...

I did point out the same crappy seat heaters BTW.
Rubber paint is done once with a small bottle touch up & cant even tell where it was touched up. Now, how is that headliner falling down, door panels coming apart, roadster window falling out going?
But that is not the point. The point is love the car you have. Obviously you do and that is great. I love my car, great. They are not the same so getting back to the OP, dont badge it with what it is not!
As for cost...I bought my SLK for $500 more than my tax return which is less than I see Crossfires being sold for The mods have added 50% tho.

Re: See what a friend of mine saw on the road
I do have to suck it up and ask for a link because if repairing the interior is that easy, I will buy you a beer at the next show while everyone is stating at my car Ok, if it is that easy, I will buy you a case LOL
Re: See what a friend of mine saw on the road
I'd rather have loose fabric and interior NVH than a smoldering backside any day of the week. Read more, the almighty E-class:
http://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/3...all-bombs.html
And MB was notorious for transmission failures in the early 2000's when they retrofitted cupholders over the transmission in the W203, as the resulting condensation dripping down from the cups above would short out the trannies.
Trunk assist problems with your $100,000+ SL?

Unbearable vibrations on your $100,000+ 2011 S-class?

List goes on.
MB is like any auto manufacturer -- some great cars, some crappy cars. All cars with their share of issues. Nearly all auto manufacturers use the same general bank of suppliers for their production components. The difference is one brand charges you for the badge on the front, and the other gives you a value based on a different badge being up front.
In our case, when things break, it's normally Stuttgart's fault.
I'm glad the SLK owners love their cars. I'm quite thankful for the SLK, their parts are normally 30% cheaper than the Crossfire parts.

I prefer Two Brothers Heavy Handed IPA, thanks! We can toast to our cars that are a fraction of what others cost!
As for "What's that? Quality concerns? Shall we dance? "...
Chrysler has an impeccable record? Really? Chrysler Complaints, Recall Information and Pending Investigations is a fun read! Sheer number of Chryslers recalled over last few years is staggering, over 700,000 I know of in just 2 recalls. Both have issues, so be it.
The srt/fiat/arbath? does it come with Catrinel Menghia in the passenger seat? You can have the idiot Charlie Sheen
Re: See what a friend of mine saw on the road
Let me know if you are ever in the Indianapolis area, my friend's brewery that I help out at part time has won midwest brewer of the year the last two years running, our DFG IPA is multiple medal winner and at 125 IBUs there is a reason it is called Damn ******* Good IPA

Re: See what a friend of mine saw on the road
Wonder how SRT 6 owners would react if 3.2 sc AMG MB owners started putting SRT badges on. They have as much claim to being SRT's as SRT 6 owners have of being AMG's!
As far as us SRT 6 owners being "MOPARS' I was not allowed to bring my car into a car show that was for 1980 and earlier OR American Muscle of any year. The person running the show was a MOPAR owner himself!

Re: See what a friend of mine saw on the road
The CLK55 and 63 AMG would disagree if it could. They went through the exact same build process as the SRT6. Both cars were built by Karmann, then sent to AMG to get the mechanical stuff installed.
The only thing that sets the SRT6 and SLK32 AMG apart is a superficial number. Even the admissions guy at the AMG forum admitted that when I asked him. He tried defending his stance by saying the Zonda and SLR weren't allowed in either. I countered that by saying those cars aren't built by AMG, they just have AMG-built motors and transmissions. He then settled that the VIN is the only difference.
