Mods need to have a soap box burning party by all means. He built a $160 dual air intake.. he's happy with it. But I guess it makes the forum too boring to let it go at what it is. Guess there are too many on board for the turbo project to make it worth while for 4-5 to start telling us how we shouldn't waist our money. Oh.. I see a pattern here.. OTHER PEOPLE TRYING TO TELL SOMEONE HOW TO SPEND THEIR MONEY.. So let's go this way.. all you guys that REALLY think he should have that NEEDSWINGS instead.. put up your cash..or are you really not THAT concerned.

MrM, it not that anyone, and I mean NOT ONE person, told, or asked him to buy a Needswings intake.

We would just like him to do his custom, home-done one correctly. And stop defending an indefensible position. SC or not, reducing the inlet air temp is what is called for.
What he has now does NOT do that.

A supercharger will increase the air X number of degrees. The IC will cool that compressed air down Y number of degrees. If you start with a lower temperature, you will finish with a lower temperature.

Really, thermodynamics isn't all that difficult.

" And stop defending an indefensible position." Your absolutely right. There is no need to defend "he spent what he did and is happy with it".

It's not that. It his spouting untruths, and foul language, that's got me, at least, riled.

The only problem I have with your "DIY Dual CAI" is that it's NOT a Cold Air Intake. By definition, it became a HAI (Hot Air Intake) when the filters were installed in the engine bay. Sorry, but that's a fact and not a judgement of your work.

If you ever revise your design, relocate the filters outside the engine bay and you'll be golden. Even in current form I'm sure it's a great bang-for-the-buck mod.

As for me, I bought my first NW CAI for $30 off of Craigslist.

By the way, the insults and profanity make you look ignorant.

If you "re read" the thread .. You would find there IS a reason for his decision to keep the filters in the engine bay.

Yes, I understood HIS reason, but I can't agree. I have my filter out in front of the radiator, and the day I installed it, I ran through an absolute downpour, one where I had to slow to 30 on a 4 lane with the wipers on high to see. This lasted about 30 minutes and when I drove out of it, I was concerned about the filter being wet, so I pulled over and popped the grille off - only the front 1/3 of the filter was wet, the rest bone dry.
So even though Utah may have unpredictable weather, I think the rain is the only concern, and then not that.

I'd rather error on the safe side than wonder how many "move them outside the bay supporters" are going to send a check for a hydro-locked engine...

I don't recall a single instance on this forum when someone was running an aftermarket/custom CAI behind the grille, and hydrolocked the motor. Not once. I've gone through high-pressure carwashes with mine, downpours, etc and not once hiccup.

FEAR = false evidence appearing real.

But if you're willing to suck in hotter air to avoid a problem that has never happened, go for it. Again, what do we know?

Personally I don't care if the intake was free. As Anthony said, he found his NW on Craiglist for $30. And he used that intake to run 11.8.

Also worth noting that Needswings started with the SRT-4/SRT-6 crowd, and eventually spread into the AMG market. Not the other way around.

I also hate to break this to ya, Miata, but the filter on the turbo kit is going to be waaaaay outside the sanctuary of the engine bay... Last revision we were told, it's going to be under the car!! Now that's some cold air bubba

Where would I be without your wealth of knowdlege..even after reading and being a part of the Turbo thread here I thought it was going to be roof mounted.

I'm pretty sure you just called yourself out. Didn't you just tell us silly SRT-6 owners to buy a $7,500 Nova if we wanted 11's?

Just remember when they show up at the track, the real races are getting a good giggle out of them....Jo Jackson builds an 11 second Chevy Nova for $7500 .. Kinda makes you wonder what the race crowd here has been smoking...
Well I'll be darned

Again, good luck with the turbo. I look forward to seeing the dyno numbers. Might want to take your own advice though and avoid the 1/4 mile, lest you be laughed off the track by "10-second REAL racers". Those guys are SO scary.

Just saying... as far as "unproven" induction locations go... that's pretty scary.

I hazard to say you guys will be fine though

Your finally converting me to the dark side.. congratulations.. now quit being such a cheap A$$ and go buy a real race car. And those $8.50 filters might help you quit being so cheap and afford to pay the $20 tab to support the forum.
Congratulations.. you win.. now spend where I suggest.

No thanks, I just bought a brand new house

IB makes PLLLLLLLLENNNNNNNNNNNNTY of cash BTW. I'd rather support our local vendors that stuck their neck out for the platform than support an internet machine that consumes small community forums.

Nothing personal, IB.

When we get our political forum back, I'll chip in a Jackson. Heck, you and I might actually find some common ground then *gasp*

Well congratulation .. getting ready to pay off our two houses and tentative drawings for building a new one with an uipstairs master bedroom with a balcony - deck overlooking the pond. Need some place to have coffee and watch the sun come up while everyone else gets ready for the work day. And I'll still be ordering those $8.50 oil filters.

EDIT:
Oh wait just a D*MN minute.. are you trying to say it's not a matter of being cheap.. but a preference of where to spend your money? Sounds like we might be heading to neutral grounds!

This is another thread gone to hell in a hand-basket. It must be remembered that on this forum we have members of different ages, backgrounds, education, etc each with different values. To many the car is a DD, to others a toy. Some see a thou as chump change and to others the difference in making rent and car payments, while to others a thou is better saved than spent on frivolities. Each has their opinion and is entitled to it, no need to add insult upon insult trying to make a point. No reason for going ballistic over a little intake mod.

Pretty much my sentiments 180 .. just seems lately though anything someone does only gets hammered if it doesn't meet someone else's standards.
