Proper care and feeding of your wing would include NOT putting any pressure on it than is absolutely neccessary. Ask anyone with cracked stand off's.
To close the lid, lightly push on the trunk, not the wing, and don't slam it.
It doesn't sound like there's many extra wings left out there.

Not to worry.....if there is a shortage of wings, it's because Steve has scooped them up.
