Finally lowered it
Re: Finally lowered it
You can go about balancing the car 2 ways and it's accomplished by raising or lowering the individual corners of the car. Cross weight, what Jim is speaking of is to have the same percentage (50%) of weight: right front left rear/left front right rear. This is the most common way. Some racers of production street cars will set up the car a different way. (less common) If the drivers front is 52% of the total front weight they will set the rear to have 52% of the total rear weight. That way each side has the same percentage front to rear. This has to be done at race weight with the driver in the car, a typical gas load etc. Most set the car up with the gas tank almost empty so the car is best at the end of the race. For the street, cross weight is a better choice. My car is cross weight balanced but I'd like to try the side to side front rear percentage system one day. I need scales and a proper spring compressor first.

Re: Finally lowered it
example left front 1000 lbs right rear is 900 lbs=1900#
then the right front could be 1050 and the left rear should be 850 =1900#
also first weigh the fronts both = 2050
both rear weight ==1750
the best would be fronts weight 950 each and rear weigh 950 each ,,this includes the driver's weight in the front seat. jim
Re: Finally lowered it
This is a picture of the scales with me in the car before cross balancing, I don't remember how much gas. 54.4% on the front wheels and 43.6% on the rear. The stock weight distribution isn't bad at all compared to other cars.

Re: Finally lowered it
left yes but almost dead center. and he has a wavetrac so the power is split between the 2 axles. thats why i was wondering if it was exclusivley driver weight related.

MY 200 lbs makes the right rear lighter,, anyway I'm not 100% sure but Rennteck is. they are going to be doing the balancing.
Don't forget when you balance the car you also add the drivers weight to the driver seat and then get the weight set in the rear, offsetting the drivers weight, so all four wheels could have a different amount of weight on them and still be balanced, when I get the car balanced We'll see what it does at the drag strip,will let you know.jim

Re: Finally lowered it
Good lord people! Picture in post 23 is with me in the drivers seat in stock configuration. Look at it. With a V-8 it will be different but the rear of the car isn't far off, it's the front that needs help. Balancing the car makes a difference in predictability, especially when your close to the edge so you can get there safer without crossing it. Post up the before and after weights Jim, I'd love to see them.

Re: Finally lowered it
by adjusting the coilovers, you can change the weight around you may not get fron to rear or left to right the same and that is not the point... remember seeing cars at the drag strip with the left front tire in the air,, this car is not balanced but when both front leave the ground the same the car is perfect. jim
