Non-AMG Sprint Booster for SRT-6?
Non-AMG Sprint Booster for SRT-6?
I posted a thread about this in the "Tech and Modifications" forum last week but got no responses (face palm). https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...s-srt-6-a.html
I have an opportunity to buy a non-AMG Sprint Booster for 2000-2009 Mercedes (the original model without the adjustable settings). I have heard that the AMG and the non-AMG are interchangeable, but that the non-AMG will feel a lot more aggressive on an AMG vehicle (perhaps for the worse) than the AMG Sprint Booster will because the AMG Sprint Booster is "de-tuned" already, while the non-AMG Sprint Booster is not. I am not really trying to choose one particular Sprint Booster over the other, but this one is at a good price and I don't want to pay the $330 for the new model.
My Question: Will the non-AMG Sprint Booster work on my SRT?
Thanks for the help. I did search around for this last week for a bit, and am pretty confident it will, but just want to check with the SRT gurus.

I've had my Sprint Booster since 2006, and at that time, it was offered in three models. There was one for the 6 speed manuals, one for the N/A Crossfire automatics and one for the AMG/SRT6 models (461A).
The 6 speed manual SB was the most sensative to the gas pedal (radical) and should not have been used in the automatic models, but some owners used it in their auto based cars.
There was a N/A model for the automatics (least radical) to the "feel" of the gas pedal, which could work on the SRT6 as well. Some SRT6 owners opted for that model.
The third SB model was the 461A that was intended for the AMG/SRT6, which I have in my SRT6 and found it works great after 6 years of use. No reason to constantly reset the trottle after city driving.
The bottom line is "your" preference of sensativity related to the trottle response.
Good Luck in your decision.

Re: Non-AMG Sprint Booster for SRT-6?
DTMenace, thanks for the response! I didn't realize the N/A Booster was actually the least radical of the group. From what I had read, it sounded as if the N/A Booster was actually more sensitive to throttle inputs due to the fact that the non-SRT TCU was less sensitive already, while the SRT TCU was more sensitive (the reason I read the AMG Booster was less sensitive to throttle inputs). How confusing does that sound!
Appreciate your input. For the price of this particular one, I probably will just go with the non-AMG (or n/a) Booster.
Will post up how I like it.

Re: Non-AMG Sprint Booster for SRT-6?
Just wanted to post an update since I said I would... finally took the time to get the non-AMG/ N/A (# 461A) Sprint Booster installed last night. I chose the method in which you didn't have to remove the pedal. Somewhat annoying as I had to contort myself to pull the plug out and the plug didn't want to budge. Finally did it though last night. Before testing it I did a throttle reset. (BTW, DTMenace you said the 461A was the AMG version but are you sure that is correct?)
I have to be honest I was a bit nervous since I knew I was taking my chances with the old version of the most sensitive model of the Sprint Booster for our cars. I bought it for $125 off of an mbworld member though so I got a good deal.
All I can say is wow. I mean others have posted about how great it is, but honestly, if I had known how this thing makes the car come alive I would have done this mod much sooner. I like spirited driving, but I don't like smashing the throttle all the time to get the Mercedes computer/transmission "excited". This was exactly what I was looking for. As others have said, sure, you have to get used to the more sensitive throttle input. I was worried it would be so sensitive that it was to the point of being dangerous. But no, that isn't the case. It is just the right amount of throttle sensitivity now. All I have to do is twitch my foot and the transmission downshifts and we are off.
I love it. I don't care about the haters who say its just gimmick. This little device is just what the doctor ordered. It counteracts the "sleepy" mode the transmission adjusts to after a few days of commuting.
I would definitely recommend this for anyone on the fence. I will say, I do think the N/A version may be a bit sensitive for more refined tastes - the car will lurch forward if you press down the pedal too hard to quickly. Personally, I like it. But I can see it would not be for everyone.
Anyways, just my 2 cents. I liked driving my SRT before of course, but now I feel it really has a different feeling - like I am now in a car that is revving to go all the time - not just when I reset the throttle.
BTW - for those interested, resetting the throttle helps, but I compared the SB and the throttle reset by doing a throttle reset the day before installing the SB. While the throttle reset helps, it doesn't compare to what it is like having the SB installed. Plus, with the throttle reset after about 2 days my transmission returns to the "granny" state. I am hoping with the SB installed, the throttle resets will become less necessary.

Re: Non-AMG Sprint Booster for SRT-6?
Do it! Did you remove it because you were planning to sell or for other reasons? I think I am going to really enjoy having it installed full time. This thing rocks.
