Default random queries

I purchased my SRT6 last August. Because it just cut off when stopping, the dealer (after 5 weeks of not having it happen to them) determined it was the fuel pump. Seems to have taken care of the problem.

1. Is 24.3 mpg usual?
2. is 377 miles on a tank usual?
3. I guess the supercharger kicks in at 60 because every 10 mph after that I get a "bump" faster - even if I'm on cruise control on a straight, flat road. Is this usual?
4. This is a really dumb question - how do I get the interior light to come on when opening the door and then go off after a bit? The dealer doesn't know. I don't have an owner's manual so cannot find out.
5. Any special thing I need to do at almost 62,000 miles or do I wait until it is higher?

Thanks for indulging me. I'll probably have more dumb questions.

1. Thats what I get in my NA around town so not really unless you barely get on it at all.
2. That would make sense for 15.5 gallons at fill up, but I never run my car that low, ever. I fill at 1/3 and it usually ends up being 11-12 gallons.
3. It engages at a certain rpm or pedal position. Im not really sure which, but if your not driving it very hard (getting 24/ga) then that bump is it engaging, Im guessing because your in 5th at that threshold for the sc clutch to disengage.
4. The slider that is in between the buttons for turning the dome lights on needs to slide to the right I think. Im going off memory unprepared lol so bare with me.
5. When you first turn your key on it will display a number. If that number is near 0 or - anything than you need to service it. Oil change, check all fluids. Check rotors/pads/wheel bearings. A thorough investigation of the entire car.

Hopefully this helps.

Thank you for the great help. Being out here in the wide open spaces, I cannot seem to go slower than 75-80 in town. Open road is another thing. So, I guess my mpg is real good. I just thought with a 6 cylinder I would get more. My SRT8 gets the same gas mileage. I fill up at 1/4 tank also and usually put in 12.8 gallons. When the light came on for that long range run, I got worried I would run out in the middle of the valley. So, I have a 15.3 gallon gas tank and reserve light on at 2.3 left? I could have gone a lot further! Glad to know my car will tell me when it needs something done. I'm still figuring out all those symbols. Why can't they just put words instead of symbols? I'll try that switch beteen the lights again.

I've had a scary moment involving my gas light and forgetting my bank card at home. It came about 20 miles into a trip after leaving a car meet in Columbia, SC and I managed to drive to Rock Hill, SC, this is roughly 50 miles and meet my girlfriend to give me my bank card. I filled up 14.8 gallons so I still had about a gallon left in it (the SRT6 has a 15.85 gallon tank). I generally get 320 miles before the light comes on. So I guess when going easy on it you can get about 360-380 miles on a full tank to empty which is in the 24mpg range. The Crossfire is a German car and like BMW's are optimized for 80mph travel speeds, at least last I checked that's what it was. This likely explains why I get around 23-24mph too as I travel 80 regularly.

As for the gas mileage between the SRT8 and SRT6, the SRT6 has fuel demands similar to an 8 cylinder as it runs at a much higher compression and has power similar to a V8 (like the LS1 for example). It's efficient for making power for a small liter/cubic inch size, but you suffer in mileage. You see the same thing in Wankel engines, 1.3 liter motors putting out 200-300 horsepower, but they get something like 18mpg.

If the cruise control is on why would the car increase speed?

According to WoodyW the SC kicks in at 1,200 rpm no matter what and stays on.

If it's not on you would lack power and know it.

My question exactly! Guess I need to have it checked out.

I am really impressed with all of you. Thank you for the quick, insightful assistance. I love my car and now I love all of you. I now know how much gas my car holds and how far I can go when the light comes on. Oh, and I got the overhead light working!

It varies in manual mod. I don't know if it varies from OEM tuning compared to those of us that have been tuned, but the engagement of the SC is load based. If I "get on it", even just a little, then yes it kicks in around 1,200-1,300rpm, but in 1st or 2nd and building up slowly, it engages at 2,900 (+-) rpm. I'm noticing this lurch/jerk now at 2,900 since I installed the EC SC pulley & tune.

It kicks in at 1300rpm regardless based on a video someone made here with an indicator light showing when it engages. That jerk you're feeling is most likely your intercooler pump going out. Many of us, including myself, had the same thing and replacing the pump usually fixes it.

Great, after spending $675 for the fuel pump I have to spend more on an intercooler pump? Expensive car --but too fun to quible about fixing it. I'll have it checked out. Thank you.

On another note, I almost got rear-ended last night by a jerk in a Mercedes not paying attention. He slammed on the brakes and had to turn the wheel, wound up with his car sideways to mine but didn't touch me. Thank you for small favors.

Yeah, the intercooler pump is a common problem on these. From what I recall the stock Bosch pump is only good for 50,000 miles or so. Another common problem to get checked is the transmission leak. Also a not as common problem is broken motor mounts. You'll notice those when your shifter starts to move like it's wanting to jump into neutral when taking off. It's still good to have them checked to make sure they're not leaking (they're fluid filled).

That sucks about almost getting rear-ended, I hit a deer 3 days after buying mine. Fortunately it was a fawn so it only busted my bumper, but I did learn that original factory bumpers on these things are rare. I got one of the last three from the batch of 54 made in 2010 (apparently from what I read about the bumper shortage).

Apparentlly the transmission did have that problem because the dealer said it was taken care of and would reduce the cost of the 80,000 mile "over haul." In the old days, I could just crawl into the engine compartment or under the car and do all the checking and work myself. With electronics, I can no longer work on my car. Sucks. Can I check motor mounts myself? Haven't checked to see if I could.

Yep, it's not too hard. It's harder to describe where to look, but they're on the underside near the wheel wells, around the area a normal motor mounts would be on a RWD car. They'll look very similar to this http://www.autoscope.net/wp-content/...ce-500x375.jpg

If there's oily liquid on the sides then it's probably leaking and will eventually break. They're not too expensive for the part, but it's definitely not a DIY for most people. You'd be looking at $300-350 to get both replaced since they're about a 30 minute job each. One thing is for sure, if they are leaking, fix them asap. I learned the hard way that if you don't then you'll be replacing a transmission mount and shift linkage which makes a $300 job turn into a $600 one.

I'm very familiar w/ Woody's video; he did a great job w/ that. I have a new Johnson pump and it works fine. I can even see it working now since I installed a surge/spit tank with my separation. Never gets too hot either.
Edit: Great job alarming the poor crazy woman, lol.
