I'm the new guy
I'm the new guy
Hey everyone,
I would just like to say, I'm new to the forums here.
I specifically chose srt6 forums because ever since I was 13 I've wanted a crossfire.. after further research I hands down decided than the srt6 was the way to go.
I am currently 17, and have a ford ranger.
I am selling whatever I can, saving whatever I can, and doing whatever I can to purchase an srt6 as quickly as possible.
I have a little over $10,000 saved up, so hopefully $6,000 more to go!
I have HUGE plans for my srt6 and mostly doing it myself.
Thanks for reading, see you around.

Re: I'm the new guy
Thanks guys..
And as of now I have alot planned. Not to sound like a dreamer but tell me what you think..
Hopefully I can get a stick shift... and black coupe srt6.
I plan on changing the rims, for something black that shows alot of room between the spokes. I plan on painting my brake calipers lime green.
I also would like a black billet grill, or silver if i paint it myself. Engine wise, I hear of alot of people buying pulleys which sounds like a good idea. I plan on getting the basic Cai, from needswings, and painting my valve covers myself.
I hope for a few audio upgrades as well, but that's last on my list, and would be an easy install.
Currently working two jobs at 17, wearing me out.

Re: I'm the new guy
Wow thanks guys!
Good tip on craigslist... I forgot to look there.
Yes, Im thinking lime green, or either a darker blue. I want it to be noticeable, yet I am planning on keeping the car for quite some time, and I do not want to get a color I'll end up growing out of.
To me red calipers are almost overplayed and I'd like to be a bit different

Re: I'm the new guy
Good luck on your search but I'd suggest a base/limited 6spd Crossfire for you. I bought a SRT-4 when I was 18 with cash but I also left myself another 5-10k to play with after the purchase. With college coming up for you I would suggest having some free cash available since you won't want to be working two jobs while attending class. I sold my SRT-4 my Senior year because it became too expensive since all the things I wanted to do to it. Unlike the SRT-4 insurance and maintenance are not cheap on any trim Crossfire so make sure you take that into account. I got my SRT-6 at 22 and now am 24. Once again good luck on your search.
Re: I'm the new guy
You do have a very good point.
Although money is a factor for me, my parents did say they would help me through college, and that I don't need to worry about it. I do plan on keeping this car for as long as I can..
I talked to my dad today and he said we'll try to test drive one sometime next week. I'm super excited, I've never driven a car with real horses before.

Re: I'm the new guy
Glad to hear your parents are helping. Good luck be careful respect the car and don't try to show off to friends and all since its just not worth it. Now onto the mods I'm sure some of your tastes will change when you own the car and see it daily. The brake hardware of the SRT-6 is not aesthetically flashy nor very good looking in stock form. Most cars with flashy colored calipers have a different style caliper design then what the srt6 has. If you paint them I vote dark blue but search the forums and you will find lots of members have painted theirs on here and many look great. This forum is a great resource!
Re: I'm the new guy
I had my Limited Crossfire through my college years. Keep in mind that in college you constantly have a need to haul your junk back and forth from home (so you have to deal with the logistics of driving a car with a small trunk all the time), you contend for parking and have to worry about the random jerk messing with your car since you'll probably leave it all over campus for extended periods of time, and you have to use your precious beer money to do things like oil changes and other maintenance, as well as some mods (as it sounds like your planning).
That all said, having the Crossfire at school was a fun experience, considering most college kids are still driving mom and dads' hand me down vehicles. But at the same time college is no high school and the opportunities to impress the ladies is not as frequent as you might think (IMO). I have actually gotten more enjoyment out of having the SRT-6 now that I am working full-time and not living in a college town - I don't have to worry about it getting messed with and I have money to work on it.
Its pretty cool to dream big so good luck. Just my 2 cents since I just went through all that.

Thanks guys!
I'm suddenly changing my mind to wanting the blue calipers over the lime green, I don't think I'll grow out of it as easy. Here's a picture I just found of a shiny black'd out vette with a great style I'd like to try and slap on an srt6.

Re: I'm the new guy
Really? A classic? That's pretty sweet!
And yeah it was really stupid of me to mention a stick srt6, that was my fault I should have done more research. Automatic is completely fine with me
And yes I have decided AS OF NOW, for the darker blue calipers. It has a much more sophisticated look, and would be alot easier to find blue caliper paint. Whichever color I decide for the calipers, I think I'll paint the valve covers to match.
I also think some tail light tint would look nice with a completely black theme.
