Default Wheel Downsize?

Has anyone gone down to 17 and 18 but kept the same diameters by increasing sidewall height? The thought came into my head today and I'm curious. The tires will be cheaper and the ride more forgiving.

We tried to fit the 17" rim we had on the front and it would not clear the brakes, you can fir a 17 even 16 on the rear though if you want to race. Best thing you can do is 18" all the way around, unless you want 18" on the front and 17" on the rear

I'm pretty sure a few people have put Mercedes SLK wheels on their Crossfires over the years. Usually for winter driving. Just can't remember who.

Those look like the rims I want. Do you know what size they are? I could have sworn people put 17's on the front. This was going to be my plan as well. 17x8 and 18x9.5

This is the SRT section, you can fit a 17 with no issues since your brakes are smaller...

I'm not sure why people can't fit a 17 on the front with "SRT" brakes...

The SRT-6 uses the same exact floating caliper and 330mm rotor as the SLK32 AMG which came with 17" wheels all-around from the factory.

In fact, I'm positive that you can fit 17" wheels on the front, as long as it's a Mercedes-spec wheel with proper offsets. Hell for that matter, the C32 AMG has 17" wheels if I'm not mistaken, and it has huge brakes.

All I know in that case is that certian aftermarket wheels, Voxx, might not fit over the front, we tried and it did not clear the brakes. So maybe the OP should try and few sets before deciding and possibly save himself some money

Bingo.

If it's aftermarket, that's the sticking point...

Best thing to do in that particular case is use a wheel retailer and "filter" the wheel choices based on a C32 AMG or a SLK32 AMG... that will pin them down on the 17's that will work with said application. Obviously we can't use SRT as a search limiter since the SRT never came with 17's and online filters are set up to only recommend OE/OE-plus sizing...

No sense buying wheels and returning them, when the online filters do the work for you

Guys, excuse my ignorance, but I was advised that it isn't possible to fit 18inch wheels on the rear, as it causes issues with the ESP and won't allow the vehicle to run??

Does anyone know if this is the case? It would be handy to have a car with Spare wheel..

Cheers

You can run 17's all the way around (factory size on the C32/SLK32) and a lot of us 16's on the rear for drag radials.

i run 18' front and rear.35 series fronts and 45 series rear.even on the stock 19 inch rears i ran 40 series tires.what im getting at is maybe you could run 35 series tires inthe front.smaller rim in the front increases the wheel well gap(unless you coilover)

I have 18's all around with few problems (a little rubbing on the front in turns, because the tires are too wide) No problems whatsoever with the esp, tho

I have 18"s on the rear on my SRT-6, and I HATE them. I can feel the added wobble in the taller sidewalls when cornering. It's awful. Sure, I get a little bit gentler ride in the back, but that feeling that the car is on rails through a corner is gone.

I'm going back to 19"s before the spring Dragon.

And just in case you're curious, I also have a set of 16"s for the rear for drag racing. They wobble like rubber hose in a wind storm. But they do fit over the rear brakes.
