Rough Idle and Limp Power
Rough Idle and Limp Power
Easwaiting at a red light today and the car started shaking rather violently. As I was waiting I shifted into neutral to blip the throttle, hoping it would snap out of it, but the tach wouldn't make it past 1000 RPM. I was able, very slowly, to he into the parking lot where I was turning. After coming out, it started up and everything worked as it should. The car is an SRT with 32000 miles. What gives?

Just cuz it's working now doesn't mean it won't happen again.
Buy one (CPS) and carry the required tools in case you get stranded.

got any ideas how to fix this?
Re: Rough Idle and Limp Power
After the replacement of the IC pump back in February, everything has been dandy, until tonight. Started the car and was greeted by that same rough idle and no power above 1,000 RPM. Put it in drive and the engine killed after a few feet. Was luckily in my church parking lot. Restarted and the same thing happened. Let it rest, and restarted and everything was fine. This is the exact same thing that was going on before. Please don't tell me the new pump went bad!!! Any ideas?

Others can comment more on that procedure. I haven't done it yet.
Yeah that, I had my car go into limp mode one time and once completely shut off while going about 40mph, few minutes with a soldering iron and no more probs.
Re: Rough Idle and Limp Power
You had two different problems going on at the same time. Yes, your IC pump was bad, that was why you would get intermittent power while cruising. The shaking, rough idle is usually a bad crank shaft position sensor. They don't always go bad all at once, but will give a warning from time to time. Under $50, and it will need replaced sometime...so I would go there next and see if it helps. Cam shaft sensors can go bad as well, but not usually the culprit 90% of the time...
Re: Rough Idle and Limp Power
Thanks for the responses guys, however I am a newbie so would someone mind directing me to a forum where it explains checking the throttle body in elementary terms?
Also, oledoc2u, I remember seeing something about the crank shaft sensor when I researched this earlier this year. Is this something I could rather easily replace myself? Thanks.
