Default Bostmonkey mods: Custom dual intake, K&Ns, 3" tubing

I also completed my custom intake. For most folks wanting a performance intake, I would have to say just order the Needswings intake. It's very good. I have a need to do things myself though. So here is how my custom intake turned out:

Picture007.jpg

Picture006.jpg
  • All 3" mandrel bent aluminum tubing and silicone couplers from mandrel-bends.com.
  • BIG K&N filters
  • E55 AMG Y-pipe
This intake is 3" end-to-end, so, yes, I cut the vertical supports underneath the upper radiator support. It is quite stiff without them. I also reloced the horns, an AC line slightly, and the secondary air pump. That make be coming off entirely soon.

The horns are behind the driver's side fog light now.

Picture002.jpg

The PS cooler line is gone. I don't think it is necessary. If I ever do think I need a PS cooler I'll install a real PS cooler.

The 90* bend on the driver's side is a really tight fit. I removed the plastic cover over the hood latch cable. The high pressure AC valve is also right in the way, so it forced me to put that bend slightly further forward. I had to trim the slats off the back of the grill on that side to make it fit. The grill DOES fit on. I hope to replace it with a mesh one like 32crazy's though.

With a mesh grill I should be able to fit a supercooler. I left a little extra length of tubing inside the hump connectors to be able to slide everything out an inch or two to get past a supercooler.

update, part #s:
K&N RU-2820 air filters x2. 5" x 6.5" 3" inlet
K&N E-4710DK Drycharger filter wraps x2 6.2" x 7.6"

It's great. Come to Timmayfest and you may get to see it again.

I contacted Unitrax, but I haven't sent them the Diff yet. I was waiting until after Christmas with the spending and all. I plan to send 'er off to get the Wavetrac installed this month, should be on the road by next month. With fancy adjustable rear camber arms too!

Update: I added K&N Drycharger filter wraps to keep water out of the filters and intakes. I have ran with these on and off at the drag strip and found zero difference in 1/4 mile times.

Here is a pcture showing the Drychargers installed.

Do you normally run without a grill? I was wondering how you fit the filters behind a grill on an SLK32.

Setup looks great.

Yes, exactly. The black wire mesh grill is actually on in that picture. You just can't really see it.

dual filters won't fit on a slk32 oem or ebay grill.
I actually ran around for a while with my dual K&Ns in front and with the stock grill. I had to trim some of the slats on the back of the grill. When I installed the 2nd IC heat exchanger (thanks again 32krazy!!!) the mesh grill became a requirement to fit it all.

You might want to look into latemodel21's pulley guard and belt wrap kits.
I think Rob at Needswings has a belt wrap kit also.

https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...er-pulley.html

https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...installed.html

reddog on this forum had a pulley explode and punch a hole in his hood.

( I don't have a dog in this hunt as I drive an NA, but if I did, I'd have those 2 kits )

The belt wrap i have needswings pulleysaver kit which is the belt relocation , the scatter shield i barely ordered and i need a shorter belt now with the 68mm sc pulley and some colder plugs

With Rob's pulley saver kit the small idler near./under the SC is eliminated and a larger one is placed near the alternator. Furthermore Rob claims the wrap is 10% greater, don't think he is talking about the idler there.

This is probably a little bit of hijack of the thread....boostmonkeys DCAI intake....but....see schem attached.
Missing the idler all together and going straight to an alternator pulley wouldnt wrap it it as much as LM's PSK.
