Want to buy Xfire SRT-6
Want to buy Xfire SRT-6
I have wanted to get a Crossfire for sometime and have found an '05 SRT6 w/78k miles in town for $9500. I have had Audi's, Jags before that I ended up dumping big $$ into to keep them running. What is the cost of ownership and maintence? One thing I am afraid of is timing belts. How often does this engine need timing belts, supercharger work, etc.? Any and all suggestions would be helpful. I am going to get a VIN # and do a Car Fax although I don't have much faith in them. Should at least tell me a little. Thanks for your suggestions.
Re: Want to buy Xfire SRT-6
No timing belts, cams are chain driven. I have seen reports on this forum of this 3.2 engine with 160,000 + miles.
As to the SRT6, additional maintenance items are all supercharger ( not significant ) and intercooler issues ( pump needs replacing more often than anything else ).
I'll step back from this point and let the actual SRT6 owners comment.

If the car is clean that is a VERY good deal...... if it is BLACK that would explain it........
Most frequent maintenance expense is oil change and TIRES!..... but that depends on how you drive...
Check all the pulleys for any squealing or growling regularly(bearings do fail eventually), change the oil and other regular maintenance and it will give you tons of fun for years......

Re: Want to buy Xfire SRT-6
I have driven the car and seems ok. The only thing is that is seems a little too much road/? noise from the rear. I don't know if it is because of the non-stock wheels or Taiwan made tires; 245/35 r 19's. The guy selling this car has two other xfires - another srt & a convertable. I drove the other srt and seems a little quieter. He wants a lot more $15k for this one although it has 81k miles and the interior is not as nice. I think I will take it somewhere and have it checked out before I decide. It is one of those deals; If it seems too good to be true it probably is. Some bad photos;

Something doesn't look right with the picture of the wheel. The lip on the right side edge looks warped....or is it the pic makes it look distorted. Plus those wheels are some fugly !!!
That car should be much cheaper than $15K in my opinion.
Re: Want to buy Xfire SRT-6
I agree that the wheels are pretty ugly but they come off easily. It makes me wonder about the previous owner. Was bad taste in wheels and cheap tires his only problem? It also has an aftermarket stereo from a manufacturer that I haven't heard of before. It is also missing the engine covers that go over the sides of the engine and the drive belts. It is all those little things that have me wondering about other more important parts of the car. Do all of these small issues indicate other less obvious problems? How well was the car maintained? Also the pics here are of the $9,500 SRT.
