Default 181 Pulley kit On - Problem cutting out at 5K

Got the 181 pulley kit on this morning. Pretty easy install. Got a problem, the car is not pulling past 5200 rpm. It acts like the supercharger is disengaging at about 5200rpm. It will climb higher but slowly. It acts similar to when high IAT's cut the supercharger off. My IAT were fine (90 degrees) and I have a new pump. The car performs fine up until this rpm point. Pulls strong down low and I saw the boost peak much higher even with the 5k cutoff. Before pulley had saw only 14 psi, saw 18 psi on the way home even with it shutting off. What is going on? I will have the Jerrytune next week. I haven't read any post with this type of problem. Long term fuel trims are showing negative 3.5's. I might pull the battery cable off. Any suggestions?

Wanted to add, I don't think it is pulley slip. Don't show any evidence of it and the cuttoff is always dead on rpm wise. I added some belt dressing and the belt is very tight.

Sounds to me like you need a SL55 fuel pump. https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...an-issues.html

Do you have a wideband? My car was still running rich with a Code3 at 17.5 lbs. of boost so I don't understand why you'd be lean, but that's what's happened to some cars. Don't abuse it until you get that tune just in case.

I think if I was lean, the car would act differently. It is just like the supercharger is disengaging at around 5000 rpm. I unhooked the battery cables. I notice the LTFT went back to zero after reset. They were hovering around -7 after about 20 miles. I guess this would indicate that fueling is okay. I don't have a wide band, just the simple ultragauge.

If I real gradually raise the rpms I can get it pull past 5000 before it falls flat.

Have you ever heard of a supercharger clutch being weak and not holding at high rpm.

Sure does seem like something is telling the supercharger clutch to disengage.

If the belt was slipping, I wouldn't think it would fall so flat so fast at the same rpm.

My money is on fueling. I've been there and done that. I know how it feels when it falls on it's face at 5k RPM's from running lean. Good luck, I hope you get it sorted out. FWIW, I'm surprised someone that understands mechanics would up his boost by 6-8 PSI and not invest in a wideband. The engines are pretty cheap, so I wouldn't worry about it.

I've read that a few have had fueling issues with the 185 but not with the 181. From what I've seen most guys on here don't have a wide bands unless they are running a 185, stacked pulleys, or NW manifolds. I wish I had one.

Given that, I might be lean. Might be a particularly weak fuel system on my car. Wouldn't the LTFT's compensate by being positive rather than negative. It looks as if it's pulling fuel rather adding. Could be pulling fuel down low and running out up high.

If you're fuel pump is maxed out at full boost, what would LT's do to help you? They would do nothing. Did you not read the thread I posted the link to?

Grip Grip just noticed you have a 181. Maybe we both have a weak stock pump, but didn't your car run fine but lean. My car is not running well enough to even make a pass.

I'm a little lost now.

Here's what you originally wrote, " Got a problem, the car is not pulling past 5200 rpm.".

From my experience with a 181 pulley, this is inadequate fueling. Please read the thread I posted.

I read it. I was agreeing... I think your right.
I think I was typing the same time you were posting.

Just trying to be descriptive to help describe what's going on.
I was just saying that I couldn't even try to make a pass with way the car is performing. When the car hits around 5200 it falls off so fast it messes up the transmission shifting. You to have let off to get the car shift up.

I've had fueling problem with other cars but nothing like this. Its more similar to traction control kicking. Just trying to be as descriptive as possible. Not familiar with this car yet. Throwing this out there, could it be it is running so lean the car is protecting itself by disengaging the supercharger.

I don't know, but chances are you're running super lean up top. Get the pump and be done with it. I found one used for $100. Don't waste your time on a tune until you have a pump. All this is assuming you're running lean.

Oh, and for God's sake, get a wideband.

Could this be related to the torque limiter in the transmission kicking in??

Yes, if you don't believe in Occam's Razor.

Very good Anthony, I learned two things today......

Occam's razor : is a principle that generally recommends selecting from among competing hypotheses the one that makes the fewest new assumptions.

However, a hypotheses is an educated guess........my guess is completely uneducated!!!!

Tune was coming when the guys are back from SEMA.

I have read that on a few limited cars the transmission torque limiter caused similar problems.
