Default Opinion of Resonator Removal Drone

I had already removed the rear cats, last week I had the Resonator removed ($60). The sound at full throttle is great, a true euro sport tone. The sound at half throttle or a steady 70 MPH isjust crap, too loud, droning and just crap. My consistant 8.00 1/8th fell to a consistant 8.13 in similar conditions, I am assuming this is due to lost torque. I am considering reinstalling the resonator and would not recommend this mod when combined with removed rear cats.

Thats why I did the muffler, fine sound and the resonator is there to kill the DRONE, thus the name resonator. Youll find the muffler to be heavy and the cause of lots of backpressure,.

My cats are all intact but I have removed the resonator only. I would say the sound is perfect for my needs and don't experience any drone whatsoever.
I would love to be able to compare the sound of my car with another SRT6 with the cats removed but with the resonator intact.

Woody, I went with the resonator removal becuase I really did not like the tone of your exhaust set up. Just my opinion, no offence intended. I would not recommend either mod based on what I have heard.

Are you familiar with the sound with the resonator deleted only?

Is there a torque loss with a resonator removal? I'm wondering if anyone can confirm this.

I think im part of the younger generation of this forum. I removed rear cats, and muffler and i loved the sound. To keep me out of trouble i had a Y-glass pack put on there to keep it to a rumble and growl.

I could of went with Ansa or Magnaflow or what ever, but I'm actually very pleased with what i have now, though unconventional for a mercedes engine.

Killer - I would think there could be a big difference in sound between the N/A ans SRT engines. Can you provide a link to the y-glass pack that you used? Thanks

the NA's dont have resinators. But back to topic. I have my muffler and cats intact and resonator removed and love the sound. There is drone around 2,200 RPMs, but above that or below isnt much at all. Sounds great accelerating from stop.

Thanks. This was the vid that motivated me to do mine. I just love WOT! I'll deal with minor drone at times.

Is this true!? Any pics of an install? Ho much do you think it would cost at my muffler shop?

To expand...X pipe as in pass through of exhaust, or separated and welded together with no exchange on either side? I see that both types exist.

I think 32K is referring to replacing the factory "H" located in this picture with a standard "X" pipe prior to welding on the new the merge pipe.

If I went down that path, I would skip the merge pipe and just run dual exhaust from the "X" pipe back to two High Performance SS Mufflers that can be re-packed...

You would need another tune to compensate for the modified exhaust. I also had rear cats & resonator removed, and also added the Magnaflow. Couldn't stand the drone and replaced the Maganflow with the stock muffler. I get some drone, but it is bearable now compared to the magnaflow.

Love the sound..............> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-k9a6LSjdw

I had the rear cats and resonator removed today and I couldn't be less disappointed with the result. I'm literally embarrassed to drive it now. Maybe reinstalling the cats ( Steve's suggestion ) will do the trick.

I only have the resonator removed on mine and I would not want it any louder than that or I'd also be embarrassed. Did you leave the flanges intact and just have test pipes put in place of the cats ?
