Depressing pix, those scratches look more than skin deep...

Regarding the Clear Bra, I went with the 3M Scotchgard (??? spelling) on my Front Bumper and Headlights, and simply love this stuff.

NYC streets are famous for all kinds of crap floating around and constant roadwork on the highways.

The 3M Clear product works great and I highly recommend...

I don't see a whole lot being able to be "buffed" out. On the plus side, it does not appear you need any sheet metal. Sorry to hear about your mishap.

 

UPDATE!

I received a mirror from SparkieSRT-6 (thanks) and have a few estimates. Just the labor is going to be $2,500.00. They want to change the headlights and windshield surround but both can be repaired if necessary. (budget will determine which) I still need the steering linkage. It's only sold as a complete assembly and it's fragile looking to say the least. I'm moving rather slow but progress is being made.

good for you Les...mine goes under the knife tomorrow....door wasn't cheap....as the whole side has to be blended...you are getting some very good estimates...Les...you'll be back in business in no time...

I found some places for parts if you get stuck on the steering linkage, but none of them cheap...my body shop, will pass them on to me at cost, if I go through them, which I did...if you need the linkage, I can have them look it up...let me know...

 

I just ordered it off Ebay. Deutschepartsusa had it on sale and it's costing me $187.98 shipped. The shop quoted me ... let me find it ..... $645.48. But thanks Doc. The people on this forum are extended family.

Assuming you had some reasonable deductible, why not just let the insurance company fix it and just cough up the $500 to $1000 deductible. If you just had liability, nevermind. But, given that parts are pretty expensive (not to mention labor) on an SRT-6, having some sort of collision coverage is good.

 

Insurance dosent cover RACING accidents....... unless you have insurance for that...

 

Sorry, I must have missed that fact earlier in the thread. At least he didn't hit a pole at speed. Much easier to find a replacement mirror than a replacement ear.

I think I'm ok on parts. I don't have the estimate in front of me for the exact part prices they used. Headlight was $728.64, steering linkage was $645.48, drivers side mirror was $728.64, new hood badge $247.50 .... you get the picture. I found the steering linkage for $187.xx shipped and the mirror cost me $15.00 thanks to a generous forum member donation. The shop wants to re-skin the drivers door. When they told me they could make it as good as new I stopped them and said "I want it better than new or don't bother making an estimate." They are going to remove the front fascia to paint it and do a fair amount of additional disassembly. I still don't have all the details but I asked and it included 3 coats of clear. He said they spray 3 but after sanding and polishing it would be more or less the thickness of 2 coats. After paint I want to put some 3m clear on the rockers, front fascia and hood for protection. I have to return to the shop in a day or two so they can make sure all I need is the steering linkage and that there's no hidden damage to the suspension.

I'm home after a visit to the alignment shop and now I know what happened to me that fateful day. They had given me 1º positive camber in the rear instead of 1º negative. No wonder it was acting so differently. And here I was thinking the wavetrac had tripped me up. I'm almost done prepping for the next event on Sunday ...... which may be canceled for Maria.
