Default Brakes

The Brakes have recently begun squealing - I know on many cars, they do this as a warning to replace your pads - Should I do this, or run them down until the brake sensors start glowing on the dash board.

Is that even the purpose of the brake sensor light - to tell you its time to replace pads?

Albert,
The warning tab will squeal for a couple of months before you will see a warning light. But why wait? The pads should be changed soon, you must decide when soon is!!!

I picked up Dura-Last ceramics at AutoZone, not because I needed brakes, but because I was tired of cleaniing Brake Dust off the wheels every 500 miles.

I only had 15k miles on the original pads when I made the change.

They went right in as advertized, no squeals, and I'm quite satisified with the lack of dust.

I think I paid $169 for both front and back.

Don't let those existing pads squeal for an extended period, if you score the Rotors, they'll have to be replaced...!!!

I'd really like to get slotted and drilled rotors, so I don't mind having to replace rotors as soon as they are done with

Like Kodebuster I couldn't deal with the Mount St. Helen's level of dust deposited onto the front wheels, but I only waited 2500 miles before putting Posi-Quiet ceramics on my car. No squeaks, squeals or loss of stopping power, and no dust!! I got the entire set for $99 on ebay a few years ago but haven't seen quite that same deal since.

I just put 5200 miles on my Crossfire on our latest adventure and the front wheels were almost brown from the dust. They were even washed once in Denver. Someday.....

If you care enough to wash them while on vacation, just get some rotex, or other ceramic. You will be kicking yourself for not doing it sooner...

The "edge corners" of my SRT rims have really ugly black brake dust deposites on them they are so hard to remove!!!! I want to get rid of them! I am talking about the 90 degree corners where the spokes hit the lip =/

Probably, but they will still have to wait until later.

Yea, I put the EBC "Red Stuff" pads on my roadster - still some dust, but nothing like the OEM's
