Default traction control issues

Hey, all... I've been looking to sell me 05 Xfire srt on the grounds that I can't maneuver it how i want to. I had a 98 grand prix gtp (super v6) before this care and the biggest difference is it was front wheel.

My issue is this...
With my FWD gtp I could whip around corners and drift the back end (and sometimes front end if it was a hard enough turn) with ease. I'm aware its ghetto drifting but when i try to do it with the SRT traction control ON the entire back end stops and its a crazy, sudden, seems like the car just said NO! kind of sudden stop. the engine revs lower and sometimes i actually come to an entire stop.

How can i get my car to act like it has an ESP or work how ive portrayed i want it to?

sorry for my ignorance in how braking, etc works lol. and im 90% sure the esp is where the car applies a % of brake power to the right rear wheel assuming your back end is swinging to your right.

EDIT: auto lsd is apparently what im wanting. i think

Our cars respond to a difference in the wheels amount of spinnning, IE, if your right wheel starts to slip then your car kicks on the traction control regardless of if u pressed the "off" button...

People have tried to tackle this ESP problem and havent had much sucess, Instead, many people (WALDIG is a good example) have bought the Wavetec posi rear. This prevents this problem and therefore your traction control doesnt realize your are sliding all over the place... It is also a good idea if you plan on adding alot of power to your car. Search for it on the forum to learn more about it....

Thanks for the response.

So essentially what you say is its traction... or no traction. theres no middle ground? essentially i want to whip around corners with my wheels losing SOME traction a mini slide if you will, but if i go into a crazy slide i want it to stop me.

Well you'd have to ask someone like Waldig if theres no traction or if theres just some.. from my impression, he pretty much had no traction I think... which isnt a huge deal imo

I find that I can still do power slides if I use enough power and overcorrect it before the computer can decide whats happening.. then the computer will usually lock me back up... but its fun for those couple of seconds

i wonder if using a different differential would work at all.

Not to be a big troll or anything, but you could learn how to drive the car. I never turned my traction control off and I slid aroud the corners just fine. Ask itsky, he rode with me all weekend last spring dragon.

Are you trying to "drift" the car or whip around the turn with a little back in wiggle? If you're trying to drift it you've picked the wrong car. BTW changing the diff will just put your car into limp mode.

theres a difference between knowing how to drive and the car not allowing you to do what you want it. the previous posters have essentially said there was an issue and its not me. ergo, i was asking if there was a way to life this limitation on the car. even if you drove all weekend whatever if you lost traction, with traction control on, either your engine lost reves to regain traction, you fixed this limitation, or you arent driving a crossfire srt.

Or... or... quite possibly you're driving an SRT6 like it's a front wheel drive Grand Prix GTP. Either way, you're doing it wrong.

Okay lets get serious, if you're trying to drift the car you've chosen the wrong car. Just because you "know how" to drive a car doesn't mean you "know how" to drive this car. This isn't your mom's 350z she let you drive your girlfriend to the movies in. It's not designed to go sideways while spinning the tires.

You don't want to drift this car anyway, haven't you seen the price of the rear tires?

im not trying to drift it exactly... just, skid the tires a little, to go around a 90 degree turn "fast" without the car locking up. a little traction lost but not as serious as drifting

How long have you had the car? (serious non condescending question)

What if you want to swing the back end around a turn and power through. You can't even though the car is going in the right direction.. it's like the car is hitting a brick wall. I could imagine how much more frustating that would be in the automatic SRT.

When you're in the right gear hanging the tail out really isn't that hard. Takes abit of practice and a lot of feathering the throttle. You've got to catch it before the computer does.

At a 90° I'm assuming you're approaching them super slow and then turning really hard and slamming your foot down? Don't slam the foot down, instead aggressively increase the throttle, then back off slightly, and then feather the throttle from there. Don't expect to be looking straight down the road out of your side window though. The car just isn't designed for it.

lol... I'm not that much of a noob. I learned to drive in a 73 mustang, I did my share of unwanted drifting.. I think my threshold for being sideways is alot greater than my idiot-proof mercedes electonics

Talking Re: traction control issues

I have gone to isolating my yaw control so that the car would not overcorrect my driving in hard autocrossing.

This weekend Ill be doing the autocross with my street tires and with any luck the tires will be worn out and I can replace them as they are 6 years old and wearing like iron and not in a good way, they are the energizer bunny, so they get sideways for the last time I hope. Have not hit the wear strips yet!!!

The rear does allow the rear to be brought around more controllably for the cautious driver. I like the wavetrack so far and feel there is a real gain in its operation. Weekend will be proof of the improved traction of the ""Posi"".

I've had it since november. its an autostick for the poster who said something about the manual. im not approaching the turns slow, maybe... 20-30 mph on a 90 degree angle, i can do it with the trac control off, and on a FWD. but as soon as the wheels lose even a little traction the car comes to a screeching hault caused by the traction control.

EDIT: there should be a middle ground where the computer is like "alright, youve lost a little traction and ur skidding a little" as opposed to "holy crap, your wheels just slid half and inch... ima stop the car so you can try again"

you need to overaccelerate through the turn starting right before you take the turn... @ a 20-30mph turn you wont be sliding around, but even at a 20 mph while accelerating heavily around the corner, youll end up all over the place.... dont be afraid to put more pedal behind the car when u take the turn...

thanks for reading, i dont understand how that will keep the traction control from stopping the car though.

and im a little confused by what your saying, overaccelerate into, and out of... at 20-30 i wont be sliding, but at 20 ill be all over the place?

As in, if you are moving at 20-30 mph and not accelerating while taking a turn, you wont be spinning around..... BUT if you start to heavily accelerate at the begining of the turn, even at a low initial mph, youll spin tons.... Just dont be afraid to accelerate hard..... Your computer will kick on after you take the spin... if you spin really good, and over correct, the computer wont kick in till after the correction...

Go try it out
