Wavetec owners what do you notice, like feel like discussing???
There was a flurry of activity of rears and I have not heard much, feeling alone on this one. What are you all seeing and how do you like the results???
Anyone had a great or difficult experience with the installation and driving so far??

Re: Wavetec owners what do you notice, like feel like discussing???
All my solo events have been rained out but I did make it to a track rental. They loaded the track with a liquid for traction but all of the cars on street tires were slipping like crazy. I spent the first hour sideways. As the sticky (or slippy) wore off I was able to get a few decent runs and I could feel the Wavetrac working. I don't know how to describe it exactly but I could feel a pulsing back there. It almost felt like slight wheel hopping. (It wasn't hopping) My best was 12.750 at 112.9 with a 2.2 60'. I left the tree off idle and don't think I had 100% throttle position anytime in first gear.
For day to day commutes it seems to make no noticeable difference. My next track days are august 6th and 14th. I bought the Wavetrac for the curves and won't have a strong opinion until after a track day. What do you think so far?

Mine will be ready for pick up tomorrow night. Then I can put it in the car and tell you how I like it.
The rear end removal was not so smooth. I hope the install will go better. Getting a short wrench in the little slot that can barely be seen and not knowing the correct size... Hours of frustration. 3 minutes to remove it once I was told the correct wrench size
Edit: Ohh I am also getting new bearings (~$160 pair) so the old ones can stay on the origional part in great condition. Then I can swap it out if need be or sell it

Re: Wavetec owners what do you notice, like feel like discussing???
What I know of the instal is limited to what the shop charged (Under 3 hours), the differential was real low on lube and they had trouble getting the side bearings out. I've never had a Posi before so I'm on a learning curve and I've gotten dangerously sideways a couple of times. I didn't know what to expect so I'm being educated by my Wavetrac.

Driving on Ice 201 ; 1/2 hour class and two credits it you dont hit something on the way.
Class,Good morning; were here today to learn about traction and driving. Remember this: Nothing is more dangerous than driving a 4 wheel drive vehicle on ice.
This runs against conventional wisdom, everyone thinks that 4 wheel drive is the best. This is fine as long as you dont spin the wheels. If there is wheel spin, the wheels loose traction which is to be expected. What is not well known is that a spinning wheel had NO DIRECTIONAL CONTROL. IT will move in any direction and not resist sideways motion.
This means that the vehicle will be without control and slip in the least restrictive way, usually downhill. Having all 4 wheels spin means that the car has no lateral stability and can cartwheel in any direction.
The open rear on the standard car spins the wheel with the least traction while the non spinning tire just sits there. BUT that non spinning tire will not slip easily and thus the average driver can wheel around a corner without loosing it or much fear of wacking a CURB !!!!!! That open rear allows anyone to drive beyond their capacity and live to tell about.
The wavetec is more like a limited spin rear as both rear tires pull and spin together, meaning the rear can COME AROUND ON YOU if you pushing it; to your suprise and amazement. It is a stronger rear and assists traction for going harder FORWARD, but you cant go without LEARNING the fine line / point that it will break traction.
Tonight I went into a turn hard and noted that the traction light did not come on even though the tires were slipping. Why, well students its elememtary really. BOTH rear tires were slipping together and the traction control did not see one wheel going much faster than the other. You can do much better with limited slip, just need to pay attention and be mindful that slipping is very much different than your fathers buick.
Your assignment it to get into a safe non street area and try to go into a hard takeoff while making an average turn. Its like practicing driving in snow where slipping is not fearful, it is just part of the nature of the beast. Report back and the better papers will be presented to the whole class for discussion and sharing of lessons learned.
DIsmissed, and be safe out there. No running in the hall !

Steve, PLEASE learn this one gradually... I don't want to be involved in a third SLK32 reincarnation thread, where you end up buying one painted Blauschwarz, and it's 1 of 3 made. Matching all the new mods to the green meanie has been a mind-bending process as it is... Blauschwarz is simply too rare a color.
Re: Wavetec owners what do you notice, like feel like discussing???
Devin called Wednesday to tell me the factory install went well and the rear is being shipped back across the U.S.A.. The WaveTrac unit was origionally sent to me just to lay on the floor for a week. Viewed so many pictures of busted spider gear shafts that I got spooked and went for the factory install. As soon as it arrives back to CinMotorSports, they will hook me back up again. Off topic, but when I dropped off the Crossfire, the CIN shop had just taken a Nissan 350 that they totally modified off their new Mustang Dyno. It pulled 849 RWHP. They had wiggled in a Corvette engine and the hood shut! Had twin turbo's underneith at the back bumper. Where the spare tire storage was origionally recessed into the trunks flooring,is now a custom built intercooler with electric fans under clear plexiglass. Bad Ride!..... Squirrel Crusher
Re: Wavetec owners what do you notice, like feel like discussing???
Got my car up and running late this afternoon so not too much seat time as of yet. I like what I have experienced so far. The rear kicked out a bit in some turns but I was not wot and it was very controable and fun. Seemed to feel it working in straight line under hard accelleration. I tried a standing start dig and there was a lot of spinning but again controable.
The big suprise came when I did a near wot from a stop sign. Did not feel I was near the point of losing control but I will admit I had not planed on useing about half of the left left lane with my rear at 45* and when I got it straight the center line was between my legs. Reminded me of the 389 GTO and the 427 Corvette when I was a littlekid. It is fun but be careful. Have not tried the tight twesties yet.
So I am going to take Woody and Robs advise and find a parking lot for more testing. ......a BIG empty parking lot.

Re: Wavetec owners what do you notice, like feel like discussing???
My mechanic installed mine last week while I was out of town. I won't get to drive it until next Thursday. I'm going to do the Evolution Performance Driving School's Phase 1 and Phase 2 in mid august so I probably won't have much to report on till then. But I'm anxiously awaiting 2 full days in a row of seat time. Should be a great way to learn how the wavetrac works.
