Is there any dreaded drone with the resonator and/or rear cat delete or is that with the aftermarket mufflers only like magnaflow?

I have the rear cats and resonator deleted and its just fine. I dont drive my car very much but if I did the sound of it wouldnt bother me. Seems most people want this amazing sound to come out but not have any interior noise.....just aint gonna happen. Id bet if they drove a 458 Italia they wouldnt say **** about drone.

I'd recommend ditching the muffler instead and keeping the resonator, great aggressive sound and absolutely no drone. Here is a sound clip of mine and a pic of the tip.

yes - MX5 - the "keep resonator" but delete (core) rear cats was what I understood was the ..."prefered" sound of many.....
testing my memory.....
not sure about remove muffler though....;>) obviously still noise compliant in your state.
BTW - sometimes I wish I didnt drive a mercedes and "had to" stick with the "quieter side of life"....;>)

I haven't done the delete yet as other mods have come 1st. But it is coming. I have a muffler shop mind to do it. But I am going in different direction and may or may not like it we shall see.

I was going to do a true dual exhaust but the HP gains ( minimal) weren't worth the cost. Now it seems like the rear cat delete is what I would want, has anyone replaced the rear cats with an X pipe? Also the rear cats probably weigh as much or more than the resonator, so weight savings is a bonus.

The thing about the muffler delete is that it's not loud by any standards, you'd not even think the muffler is gone during regular driving and absolutely no resonance on the highway, muffler weighs a ton so good weigh savings there as well. Just throwing it out there.

my experiment will be to remove the rear cats, the resonator, and run a single dual inlet/outlet shorty muffer in the area of the resonator, and delete the stock muffler and run another single dual inlet/outlet shorty muffler with the tips welded on to it...looks stock, oh, I forgot, it would be a true dual system as well...hoping to tone it down with the dual muffler set up and still be true dual set up.. Have the parts, just isn't a priority right now...as it net no HP gains to speak of...

I have my resonator delete and it makes the exhaust sound so much better. Their is a bit of drone, but nothing that will annoy you.

I like your plan Doc. I have been trying to figure out how to stick a large 4 chamber flowmaster type muffler somewhere to do teh same thing.....

My plan was an X pipe where the CATS are then 2 small inline resonators then the shorty dual in/out with stock tips. How do you think that would sound?

I looked at HottExhaust, a Magnaflow retailer, and HorsepowerFreaks. The ones I was interested looked a little smaller than those and there were various inlet/outlet sizes plus lengths from 11 to 20 inches. Thought maybe 2 11 inch ones would eliminate the drone that sometimes accompanies the resonator delete and still allow a true dual exhaust.
