Default Howdy! Looking for my first SRT6.

Hello, world!

I'm looking for my first SRT6, and thought I should post here, looking for tips or info on specific cars.

I have a '99 SLK230 now. There's a lot of things that I like about it, but I'm tired of water dripping in the driver's side window, I've had problems with the roof, and I'm on my THIRD friggin' PSE unit and I know it's just a matter of time until this one gets wet, too. They've all been bagged up tight, but there's a lot of rain here in Portland, and it's just a terrible design. Of course, it does have 130,000 miles now - that might be part of the problem. Transmission needs new fluid again, that K40 relay needs to be replaced, and I'm sure there's other stuff coming soon.

I'm hoping that moving to an SRT6 will let me get an updated body style, gain a couple hundred more horsepower, drop about 100,000 miles off my odometer, and lose the PSE unit problems. I'm a little worried about the cost of parts for a car that's so rare, but I'm glad there won't be many others around so that's a normal tradeoff.

I want a black one...the best available seems to be in Lowell, MA. Anyone know this one? 2005 Chrysler Crossfire SRT-6 Coupe - Cars For Sale Lowell, MA

There's a cheaper one on Ebay, with 70k miles, in Fort Lauderdale. No bids, yet. Anyone know that one, or the dealer? Chrysler : Crossfire | eBay

One of those has an AMG emblem on the back, and the other doesn't. It also has an AMG emblem on the inside, above the radio, and the other one doesn't. Is that strange? Which way is stock?

Anyone know of other ones available, that I should consider?

Thanks for any tips!

Are you focusing only on a coupe? Check out my BLACK SRT roadster. It's listed in the "private - cars for sale", here on the forum. Look for "SRT Roadster In Time For Summer". It's not for bottom fishers, but you get what you pay for .......

Sorry, it's got to be a coupe. I need the trunk space! I probably should be buying a pickup, but I just can't bear the thought.

Thanks for pointing me at the ad listings, though - hadn't seen them yet!

Are you in Portland on the west coast or east coast??? I am just west of Portland, OR....

The SRT6 coupe works well for everything... except driving with the top down...
The hatch holds a surprising amount of stuff...

I just looked in autotrader.com withing 200 miles for Portland, OR and found 5 coupes from $12k(SSB with 111k miles) to $19.5k(Aero Blue with 25k mile)....

I'm in Portland, OR. Howdy, neighbor!

I don't get those results on Autotrader, though...? I see a blue 2005 with 25k miles, 159 miles away and another blue 2005 with 15k miles 300 miles away. What am I missing? Any black coupes?

The ///AMG badges are not stock. The lower grill has been painted silver from the original balck, and he has put SRT6 stickers on the front/rear badges and wheel center caps. The stickers will pull off to reveal the stock badges.

You may want to consider widening your search as many of us on the forum have done. I bought mine 600+ miles away. flew out... picked her up..... and had the time of my life driving her home.

You will not be disappointed with the SRT. As I am sure that you already know, the SRT is built on the SLK32 AMG platform with a Karmann body.

Good luck with the search.

Widening?? The two I posted above were in Massachusetts and Florida! I'm in Oregon - how much further can I go? Straight to Karmann?

Thanks! I'll call the guy in Woodburn tomorrow. Dark grey isn't the black that I'm looking for, but plane tickets and shipping might cost more than the color difference is worth to me.

The convertible looks sharp, but I gotta have a coupe!

Thanks! There's no phone number posted in the ad. I sent him an e-mail through Autotrader...I'll let you know when I'm headed down, if he gets back to me.

The one in Woodburn "sounds" good but beware. "Changed Oil Every 3K miles"???????? If they did, did they use the synthetic oil?????? It's expensive and unecessary to do it that frequently -- so I'd check to see if they have records / receipts of the changes. Other than that, from the pictures, it looks to be in decent shape although miles seem to be a little high compared to some others -- but miles generally don't bother me......

My Search for Black Coupes -- Some good options:
One in Houston for $15.5 with 23K on odometer: Cars for Sale: 2005 Chrysler Crossfire SRT-6 Coupe in HOUSTON, TX 77018: Coupe Details - 296161758 - AutoTrader.com

One in NY for 16.5 with 45 on the odometer: Cars for Sale: 2005 Chrysler Crossfire SRT-6 Coupe in NEW YORK, NY 10011: Coupe Details - 286719570 - AutoTrader.com

Good luck.

EDIT: BTW - If you want to expand you search for Black, you may want to consider a non SRT Crossfire. More out there and as far as performance in comparison to your SLK 230, it's way more satisfying and you can mod these to get more HP for reasonable price -- which can up your performance and get closer to SRT6 level. Just a thought for consideration

ONE MORE: This was just posted on the forum today by Racing -SRT6

Thanks for the listings, PNA. That one in Houston looks like a great mileage-per-dollar contender. And that airport is a big hub, so it should be easier to get down there than some of the other places. I hope this local guy in Woodburn writes me back soon, so I can cross him off the list if I need to.

I didn't think of the 3,000-mile oil changes being wonky, but you might be right. He's also got some very strange camera angles in those pictures....one rear view mirror, one wheel well, one door handle, and I don't even know what's in the last picture, on the second page.

I've had some cool cars, but I don't work on them anymore. I gave up modding back in high school - seemed like nothing was ever easy or problem-free. I keep 'em stock, now. And I like the standard Crossfires...there's enough power there for me. But it'd drive me buggy knowing I could find one with 115 more horsepower, for about the same price, if I had just looked a little harder.

If you find an ad for an SRT-6 "Black Max Edition"..... RUN!!!! Seriously.

Maybe they meant expanding your search like Europe?
Just kidding... Good luck with your search!

Felt the same way when it was just talk of me getting one, but when opportunity knocked, we answered, and invited it in for a drink......now KimPossible and I get to stare at one AWESOME car port!

I've got a phone call out to this guy, in Vegas. Low miles and looks good, but his oil light is stuck on? Used to be a forum member's car, but that member hasn't logged in since he sold it in 2008 or so...
