Howdy! Looking for my first SRT6.
Re: Howdy! Looking for my first SRT6.
Did you look at these two? A little high but LOW mileage... (and my favorite color!)

That one looks okay.... bothersome that he didnt fix the oil light cause... since he is checking the oil manually and it is good it may be the sensor or it may be a connection issue...
Worth talking to him about for sure.....
(if you buy a BLACK one you will just have to accept being SLOWER.....)

Finally got the owner of that grey one in Nevada on the phone just now - it's been sold already. Same story with the one in Woodburn, although his ad is still up.
Guess I'll keep looking, twiddling my thumbs until a nice black one shows up within 1,000 miles of Portland. Search is narrowing down, too: looking for an unmodified one. Engine mods done by someone else make me nervous.
Re: Howdy! Looking for my first SRT6.
Well, I almost bought a black 2005 base coupe today. Only 15,500 miles, and he only wants $11,500 for it - beautiful car, and that seemed like a steal!

But it turns out that the manual seats are a LOT higher than the power seats that I've sat in before. I showed up all excited, but I just couldn't fit in the thing...I tried for a while, really wanted it, was kind of heartbroken.
I need to get out of my SLK soon...I'm worried that it's not going to last much longer. I'm thinking I'll just buy a nice Limited, and hold out for a local SRT-6 to show up.
Went to look at this grey coupe at the local Subaru dealer, but they couldn't get it to start. Said that they'd been doing work on the transmission, and the shop guys went home without re-activating the security system that prevents it from starting. 47k miles, and they have it listed at $14,999 now.

I thought they were more like cloth versions of the seats you now have in your SLK.
Just how tall are you?

But the black base coupe with the manual seats was really high - I needed another two inches, maybe? I put the seat forward, and reclined it with the **** on the inside, and got enough headroom - but then both my shins were touching the front dash, on either side of the steering wheel. Just seemed like the seat was way too big for the car.
I called the local dealership, and they wanted $640 for a power seat motor and $350 for the trim pieces they'd need to do a changeover. Not including labor, but still a little tempting.
Re: Howdy! Looking for my first SRT6.
Super weird seat issue. I sat in Ben Book's base coupe and a considerable difference was noted. But I saw them as much lower and thinner feeling on the bottom cushion. If Ben (6'5" 315lbs?) and I (6'4" 265lbs) can fit, there shouldn't be much of a problem getting you in any of the models.

Sure! I own some rental property, and I just changed over all the units from oil heat to electric heat yesterday - I'm going to be busy for the next couple of weekends patching all the holes the electricians and HVAC guys left in the drywall. :S
My two helpers and I hauled 4,260 pounds of cast iron radiators out of the building and onto a Uhaul truck yesterday!
A nice black SRT-6 just went up for sale at a Jaguar dealership in Las Vegas...that'd be a short weekend trip...hmmm...

There is one option for you (if you really liked that base car), and that would be to pick up a pair of seats from a salvage yard like LKQ. Usually they have some pretty good prices.
If you don't mind having an automatic, then a SRT would be an excellent choice, especially if you like to drag race. But a Base or Limited does everything the SRT does except get to a 150mph as quickly.

There is also a black coupe in Jacksonville, FL for $14,995. Talk about the other side of the country!!!

Re: Howdy! Looking for my first SRT6.
Well, the local guy with the 2005 black base coupe called back - he figured out how to lower the seats. Short guy, and he had it raised all the way up...and swore up and down that it didn't raise or lower, when I tried to test drive it. I took it out today, and it seems perfect!
So we shook hands, and we'll close the deal tomorrow when the banks reopen. It's not an SRT-6, but it's my first Crossfire!
2005 base, with a manual transmission. VIN number 1C3AN59L15X031938, with only 15,500 miles! This guy seemed like the perfect seller...old retired guy, with a big fancy garden in front of his house. Didn't smoke, kept the car garaged, had it detailed at Autobella. He bought it from the local dealer with 4,000 miles on it - they told him the original owner lost his job right after buying he car.
While I was checking out the car, walked around and touching all the panel seams and such, he followed behind me with a rag and rubbed off each fingerprint that I left, with a frowny face. He had all the original manuals spread out like an exhibit, when I got there.
$11,500 seemed like a steal, even for a base model! That'll last me for a long time, until there's a local SRT-6 that I just HAVE to have.
I know the base model has manual seats, cloth instead of leather, no heated seats, black trim instead of silver...anything else, that I should know about?
