Default Front Bumper Lip

Anybody have experience with this? does it work? I'd primarily like to get one to protect the bottom of my lip, which is scraped up /=

I've always played with the idea of a "cheap replaceable" lip splitter that I can easily replace once I bottom out.

It's really not bad for what you pay for. I have had mine on since January and it still looks like it did 5 months ago. Here is a thread with some pics of it on my car.

If you want something high quality and cheap, make one out of fiberglass. Google fiberglass front bumper; there are plenty of builds online that will give you a good idea of whats involved in making one. It may take a month of sanding to get it right, but would probably cost $30-75 in materials (gallon of resin, throwaway brushes, sandpaper, modeling material and a couple packages of cloth; respirator is highly recommended) plus the cost of paint (paintscratch.com paint matches beautifully, and is cheap). You'll learn how to do bodywork in the process too lol.

That doesn't look bad.. I would actually just wrap that with fiberglass or carbon fiber for strength, paint it and call it a day.

Humm.. After looking at that tread, I think I might put it on. Has it saved you from lip scrapes fairly well?

Honestly if you run up on a curb I do not think it will prevent your car from getting scratched. It's very flexible. However, I have not had my car in a situation that would cause the front bumper to be scratched so I really cannot say.

Please don't waste your money on a "kit". All this is is a garage door seal you can pick up at stores like lows for $12. They even had the two types of material, one like rubber, one like foam. You will want to use screws as well as tape to keep it looking nice. I've got this on the front lip as well as down the side skirts on my Honda fit. If you wanted to do the side skirts I would suggest getting a door molding kit while you are at the hardware store. Just find one that is aluminum with the holes already drilled. Cut it to the side skirt length and pull out the rubber seal. Place the rubber "lip" between the side skirt and the aluminum strip and put the screws in.

The good thing about doing this is less air turbulence under the car (same as if you lowered it). It also has the look of lowering the car if you do the side skirts as well. It should also improve mileage by a very small amount because of the air flow under the car. It also helps in cross winds in my front wheel drive car.

Yes it will to an extent... My wife scraped the **** out of the factory lip on the FIT. She never pulls out of driveways at an angle so the lip was already screwed up. I wanted to see how this holds up before I get a respray. It takes all the scrapes that she can dish out and has saved the lip from more damage.

Sorry, I try to refrain from negative comments, but damn... I couldn't imagine taping or screwing any garage door accessories onto my car. In my opinion, it is quite doubtful that this material would provide any positive effect on the car's aerodynamics or fuel savings; not to mention the appearance.

Haha ok then... do me a favor everyone who pays for this "kit", go to the hardware store and compare it to the product I said and tell me you don't feel stupid. This has been done to DEATH on all kinds of cars and is well known... just google search DIY front lip, you'll find countless cars with the garage door seal lip.

better yet look at my car and compare it to the "lip" on that ebay post and tell me there is a difference

Also how does an inch and a quarter less height for air flow under the car not equal everything I've said? I guess it was just in our heads when we dropped lap times with Jim Pierce's winning front wheel drive road race car using ABS lip/side skirts in his case?

I find your narrow mindedness sad... Because the material in question was originally designed for a garage door and people have found other great uses for it in other applications makes in inferior? You might not know this but tape and screws are quite common materials in cars.

I'm with you on not doing this on my SRT because in IMO it just wouldn't look right. Doing this to my Honda FIT doesn't look out of place in any way and actually looks good in that application IMO. Also like I said my wifes driving habits leave much to be desired. If I can somewhat save the factory body kit and replace as needed this rubber lip then I am pleased with it.

An under tray panel under the engine alone will net a proven two mpg gain in the FIT application.

But, the question we are all wondering:

Does it keep the mice out?

Just kidding. It's not so bad on the fit. I'll give you that.

I wasn't inferring that the garage door stuff was not indeed the same. I was saying, that junk would never be applied, in any fashion, to my car. But to each their own.

As far as this flimsy material providing the same effect as a properly designed piece of ABS, fiberglass, carbon fiber, etc... is whatever you want to believe.

There are a slew of crap products on the market that say "proven effective", but are just junk... examples: electric supercharger, clamp-on magnet fuel saver, $50 performance chips, etc...

Now the undertray panel claim, I completely believe.

All said though, it doesn't look that bad under your FIT.

Like I said, I was the one to work out the ABS additions on the race car so I think I know whats going on with this rubber lip at speeds. The lip holds its shape of 90 degrees at speed as its on MY car. Its clear you don't have experience with this "cheap" material as you call it. It's also clear your trying to backpedal with your inexperienced views... let's just let people do what they want with their cars shall we? You've expressed you view on the lip clear as day, and I agree with you on doing it to the crossfire. If people want to do it I want them to do it right so it looks good and not get ripped off.

Now the undertray panel claim, I completely believe.

These are actual results from forum members recording their mileage before and after the install.

All said though, it doesn't look that bad under your FIT.

Thanks
