Front Bumper Lip
Front Bumper Lip
Anybody have experience with this? does it work? I'd primarily like to get one to protect the bottom of my lip, which is scraped up /=
I've always played with the idea of a "cheap replaceable" lip splitter that I can easily replace once I bottom out.

It's really not bad for what you pay for. I have had mine on since January and it still looks like it did 5 months ago. Here is a thread with some pics of it on my car.

Honestly if you run up on a curb I do not think it will prevent your car from getting scratched. It's very flexible. However, I have not had my car in a situation that would cause the front bumper to be scratched so I really cannot say.

Re: Front Bumber Lip
Please don't waste your money on a "kit". All this is is a garage door seal you can pick up at stores like lows for $12. They even had the two types of material, one like rubber, one like foam. You will want to use screws as well as tape to keep it looking nice. I've got this on the front lip as well as down the side skirts on my Honda fit. If you wanted to do the side skirts I would suggest getting a door molding kit while you are at the hardware store. Just find one that is aluminum with the holes already drilled. Cut it to the side skirt length and pull out the rubber seal. Place the rubber "lip" between the side skirt and the aluminum strip and put the screws in.
The good thing about doing this is less air turbulence under the car (same as if you lowered it). It also has the look of lowering the car if you do the side skirts as well. It should also improve mileage by a very small amount because of the air flow under the car. It also helps in cross winds in my front wheel drive car.

Sorry, I try to refrain from negative comments, but damn... I couldn't imagine taping or screwing any garage door accessories onto my car. In my opinion, it is quite doubtful that this material would provide any positive effect on the car's aerodynamics or fuel savings; not to mention the appearance.

better yet look at my car and compare it to the "lip" on that ebay post and tell me there is a difference

Also how does an inch and a quarter less height for air flow under the car not equal everything I've said? I guess it was just in our heads when we dropped lap times with Jim Pierce's winning front wheel drive road race car using ABS lip/side skirts in his case?

I'm with you on not doing this on my SRT because in IMO it just wouldn't look right. Doing this to my Honda FIT doesn't look out of place in any way and actually looks good in that application IMO. Also like I said my wifes driving habits leave much to be desired. If I can somewhat save the factory body kit and replace as needed this rubber lip then I am pleased with it.
An under tray panel under the engine alone will net a proven two mpg gain in the FIT application.

As far as this flimsy material providing the same effect as a properly designed piece of ABS, fiberglass, carbon fiber, etc... is whatever you want to believe.
There are a slew of crap products on the market that say "proven effective", but are just junk... examples: electric supercharger, clamp-on magnet fuel saver, $50 performance chips, etc...
Now the undertray panel claim, I completely believe.
All said though, it doesn't look that bad under your FIT.

Like I said, I was the one to work out the ABS additions on the race car so I think I know whats going on with this rubber lip at speeds. The lip holds its shape of 90 degrees at speed as its on MY car. Its clear you don't have experience with this "cheap" material as you call it. It's also clear your trying to backpedal with your inexperienced views... let's just let people do what they want with their cars shall we? You've expressed you view on the lip clear as day, and I agree with you on doing it to the crossfire. If people want to do it I want them to do it right so it looks good and not get ripped off.

These are actual results from forum members recording their mileage before and after the install.
