perhaps there needs to be a balance .... if mmztimelord is willing to stick his neck out then I say "bravo"

oops, I guess I'm the one cluttering this thread up now

on the topic of the crossfire wheel you have access to, I appreciate the offer; however, I would like to see this on the car in order to check how the paddles will be placed as I would like to supply a template for modifying the wheel. This will require [me] seeing the relative position of the wheel to the levers. Along with a quick look behind the airbag to make sure that both the steering wheel reinforcement structure is and the switch interface will be the same for the crossfire and the slk32 (I am trying to keep this part of the kit completely plug-n-play, so making it fit both keeps the cost down (ie, closer to my target).

in so far as "all the bells and whistles" I am still going to make this available as both MODULE ONLY (for those who want to waste 20 hours of their own time to integrate this set-up) and ... COMPLETE KIT. The complete kit will include the module (connectorized) with 3 harnesses and hopefully a useful template for wheel modification. The 3 harness will be connectorized as well; one for the shifter, one goes up to the K40 module (and includes an inline fuse), and one is the interface between the horn and the paddle switches in the steering wheel (similar in function to the Mercedes switch module used in factory paddle shift cars) .

The timeline is soon. Perhaps within 2 weeks. The only hold ups at this point are finding or creating a decent how-to on the floor shifter signal tapping (which i may do this weekend) and getting a good close look at a crossfire (Up till now, I've only caught quick glimpses of them and then, right away, they are in my rearview mirror getting smaller ) (sorry guys, couldn't resist)

In case your interested. I am running the latter R170 SLK steering wheel and it was exactly like the Crossfire wheel internally. Any chance of getting a kit before I drive the car from Texas to the Dragon in Late September?

I just finished taking more than a dozen pics detailing the floor shifter modifications. Modules are built. I'm waiting on some miscellaneous parts to finish up the harnessing,

bottom line ... We should be able to get you set up in time.

I will send you a PM so we can exchange more details.

Went and got a close up look at an SRT-6 this morning.
MMZ_TimeLord vollenteered to take his very nice SRT-6 apart so that we could compare the steering wheel structure and wiring to that of the slk32 (to insure that my plug-in interface would ,,, plug-in). Looks like it will work fine and seems like mounting the paddle switches may be a little easier on the SRT-6 (paddles do not encroach on the leather like it does on the slk32).
thanks for tearing apart your car for the cause MMZ_TimeLord.

Is there anyone local (south sf bay area of ca) who is ready to put paddles in right now? It's not critical, but I was hoping I could get some pictures of the process (and create a template of sorts) to include with the kits that I am about ready to ship.

I was aiming for $120 plus shipping for the "complete kit" (includes everything except the paddles), but It looks like the first run will have to go out for $145. This will include the electronic module plus all of the harnessing and is set up for a mostly plug-n-play installation. For hard core DIYers, I will sell the module separately as well.

I hope to have a complete set of step by step install picks for an SRT-6 shortly (for the steering wheel mod, the floor shifter mod and the harness install).

paddles, as I have mentioned before are the AMG paddles, MBZ #1712670046 . They are $104 shipped from OE Discount Parts or $99 plus shipping from parts.com

This sounds reasonable providing one doesn't need a pilots licence to install it

I hope once you post the step by step it will all make a bit more sense.

I for one and I'm sure most people following this would like to thank you for taking the time and effort in making a kit for us all. It's people like you that make this forum such a great place to be apart of.

John.

Just ordered my paddles. Figured I better grab them now before we start a national backorder situation here... lol

And yes, THANKS for helping us out and jumping right on making the kits!

In the interest of supplying a kit that works now and for the life of the car AND does not put the cars electronics at risk. I have decided to do some worst case scenario torture testing on the unit. So far it has worked fine but I would like to verify that, under any and all circumstances, it is not upsetting the cars electronics (or look up tables for acceptable inputs) . Plus I want to make sure that, withing reason, the installation process does not expose the cars electronics to any risk (we all know how pricey parts can be for these cars).

This may hold things up a little longer, but I would always rather err on the side of caution when it comes to the safety of my cars and all of your cars.

Chris

p.s. anyone nearby ( in the SF south bay area of ca) who has a star diag tool, I'd love to hear from you as I want to scan my car again before I start shipping. I am going to get my own soon enough, but if someone nearby has one, it will speed up the kit release.
