Yah it Was Steve but it also was a Guessed speed.
We had tall tires on it and his speedometer was well off.
He did not have GPS for an accurate number.
I agree the car will do far better than even that but at that time he and I had the highest posted speeds and I defended myself being he was inaccurate in his postings.
I just feel you need some type of cred if your going to make accusations that your faster than someone else.

Yeah, it was Steve Hellums I was thinking of.

Montana, I was just saying I thought I remembered somebody posting up a 180+ speed sometime in the distant past. I didn't know if it was validated by a GPS, radar gun, or stopwatch.
I usually take everybody at their word here on the forum, and I never doubted (that with a few mods) an SRT would be capable of reaching those #'s.
I just hope nobody ever gets injured trying to attain these insane speeds.

Hey Alberta,
I am hoping to go to Denver but not sure as of yet.
There is lots of openess on 15 south so I may give it some run time on the way. You need to syop in Great Falls if your passing through.

No one lives near the Bonneville salt flats on here? That would be neat to see

i believe brianbrave is the fastest DOCUMENTED srt-6 at 169mph and change in a measured mile. unless you can show timing slips for any distance run be it 1/8 to 5 miles its all speculation. brian has the slips to prove the speed!

Montana, I'm SOOOO envious of those straight, reasonably flat roads you have out yonder! I have NO doubt that you easily did 150 & with all the mods & tinkering you've done over the years, 185 should be doable!

165 is the fastest I've had my SRT at: Hwy. 156 east out of my hometown here in WI on a warm August afternoon. And, no, I don't have any "documented" proof because trying to take a picture of my speedo while rocketing down a 2 lane highway is even crazier than driving at that speed to begin with. Both of my hands were on the wheel so tight you would've had to pry them off with a crowbar & WD-40. It started to float over that stretch of highway at that speed so it was time to stop proving a point & start braking.
And I'll never have a passenger in my car while driving at that speed, either.
On the other hand, if any doubters would like to take a road trip up yonder & have a their life insurance policy good to go ....

Johnny B ¶ Eurocharged Performance; Does the tune for the SRT6 eliminate the speed limiter? Will I be able to drive over the factory set 156mph Apr 27 at 2:26pm

Eurocharged Performance; Oh YA! Apr 27 at 2:39pm

Johnny B; Awesome! Any idea what the top speed is on a completely stock, except for the tune, SRT6 is? Apr 27 at 2:50pm

Eurocharged Performance; as fast as you can go....we put it over 200 but you will never hit that...

I believe that means they set the speed limiter above 200.... not that you will hit over 200... as mentioned by the "but you will never hit that..."

They remove the top end limit and the reason (other than physics) it will NOT go 200+ is gearing.
186 is approx 6100rpm.

While I am the first to admit the engine in this car is built as if intended for battle service.
But, engines are a funny beast, they have a tendency to show attitude in areas refered to as "Red Lines".
running under a load at red line can sometimes keep an engine running better than just free wheeling and then just the opposite happens the slightest touch or kiss of a valve against a piston and ther is nothing left.
Have I answered your question? Absolutly not, but I did a fine dance around.
My guess, much higher than the indicated red line and at top end I doubt we would have to worry about it.

There use to be someone on here that claimed they could get 186 out of it and prove. Don't remember who they were and can't say I ever saw the proof either.

I have had mine up to 145 on my GPS. I was surprised how stable it was at that speed. Doubt I will ever try to go higher - that's what the they make motorcycles for!!

I can't wait to see what it can do top end.

I can only claim 135-140mph. A picture alone is dubious, but acceptable. GPS logs would be rock solid. GPS Don't lie.

That being said, mine still has the stock tune, so I would probably be locked at that 156mph mark anyway.

And yes, it was in fact Steve Hellums that made the ~186mph mark. It was based on his speedometer + his tire height % offset as he was running taller than stock tires. So, he 'kinda' had a higher 5th gear than most of us.

We all know, or should know, that the chassis specifications have been revealed to be stable up to 170mph. Going beyond that without a front splitter and/or lowering of the car might be a bit on the risky side.

Good luck to all... and above all be safe in the attempt!

If Steve's speedometer read 186mph, (assuming Steve was being honest) then he was actually going faster than what his speedometer was showing because his taller tires would create a slower mph reading.
