Re: Crankshaft position sensor
The CPS wires feed up and into the ECU. He would have to purposefully move the wires in order to pinch, nick or cut them.
Since it is trying to start that is good. The crankshaft position sensor and the camshaft position sensor work in conjunction... I believe it is 8 crankshaft pulses(or more) between camshaft pulses for the car to start. The camshaft sensor is up on the FRONT of the block, on the passenger side by the valve cover.
I agree with the check the cables with a meter, from CPS conector to the ECU. Check the camshaft connector and make sure it is solid also. Maybe check it with a meter also.
You can also put a voltmeter across your battery and watch it while your trying to start the car. What does the voltage read? If it is below 11v it may not be turning hard/fast enough to get the 8 pulses on the CPS.

Only now do I find out that it does not fire at all let alone start.
Re: Crankshaft position sensor
Alright i tested the battery and its fine. i have yet to test the cps wires since i dont know how.
In a last attempt to get a resolution before i get a professional involved i will mention anything that i think might help
-When i have the car on the on position i hear a buzzing electrical sound from the engine and i have heard this before and it sounds normal, however after a few seconds i hear a couple of loud clicks coming from underneath the throttle body.(it seems likes its coming from there)
-The car is on jackstands on the front end only
-My neighbor suggested to use locktite on the crankshaft bolt so i did.
-the fan is currently unplugged so i can have easier access to the pulleys
-i have yet to check any fuses.
-i used the stock belt as the instructions stated
- should i buy another cps just in case????
-my neighbot tightened the crankshaft bolt while i pinned the flywheel. if the bolt is too tight would this cause a problem with the cps?
-FML
Thanks again for everyones help!

(yes, technically you can over tighten it)

I turned my car to on and listened and heard the buzz and the clicks, so that's OK.
LokTite? at 148lb.ft plus 90 degrees I think it's tight.
This bolt has seen serious stress and I think, I may be wrong - again, the manual says to change it every time it comes off. That's the least of your worries now though.
You did clear the codes I take it.
I am still at a loss as to the car firing at all.
It doesnt fully start. It seems like its its runnig out of fuel. The cranks turns over several times it comes pretty close to turning on and staying on and it just dies.
Do you mean the starter turns the engine over, or the engine turns under it's own power? I'm confused.
We have a terminology problem here.
You crank the engine over under starter power is the correct term.
Smelling gas would hint to me that it does not fire and the smell should come out the muffler mostly.

Re: Crankshaft position sensor
It has to be the flywheel. Ive done some additional research and ive found that the flywheel has a lot to do with what the sensor reads. It must have gotten misaligned when i pinned it. But its def not bent. I guess i have to get a professional to take a look at it. I might take a vid and post it here and get some feedback from u guys.
Re: Crankshaft position sensor
UPDATE. Flywheel is toast. After looking with a really bright flashlight and taking my time i see a nasty bent on the flywheel. i think this is causing the cps to misread..... NEVER USE A SCREWDRIVER TO PIN THE FLYWHEEL. alright so is this a part i can order seperately and have someone drop the bellhousing and swap it out? can it be taken out fixed and reinstalled. i will be making a new thread on this soon
