Look at the mismatch where the fuel injector sits. It's firing right onto that ledge.

SC and manifolds are coated in oil, catch can is a must!

It's going to be a long winter so I can take my time with this.

 

How do your rotors look, and how many miles?

 

You mean the Teflon on the SC rotors? I haven't taken off the intercooler or line pipe yet but looking in with a flashlight they look fine.

Someone was in here at one point, I found an old band-aid in the engine "V".

ya your down in there, i would suggest thermal coating the exterior of the intercooler while it's out, let me knwo if you need help on that.

now that it is apart, now it the time to start cleaning, she can be pretty in no time.

what prompted the tear down?

 

Yeah, what was the impetus for the disassembly? More power I'm sure, but how about some clues on your plans. Porting seems to be a given. What else?

Wait until you see the inside of the intercooler. These things should have never left the factory without an oil separator of some type. No wonder the intercooler is inefficient, it is clogged with oil.

I wanted to get every thing perfect before going with a pulley. I pulled off the manifolds to gasket match and saw all the oil build up and figuered it was time to clean out the IC, then wrap it, but I'm going to get it ceramic coated (I'll contact you Rob). I'm going to just touch up the head ports around the injectors only, too scary too go whole hog with the motor assembled. Gasket match the manifold/ upper intake runners. I sent out the injectors for cleaning and testing also, should be back next week. I also started cleaning everything real well in there, what a mess! 12 to 14" of snow here tomorrow so the 6 is parked anyway.

Weather here is also SRT unfriendly has been between -15 and 15 degrees for weeks.
When I built our shop I went for more size (30'X50') rather than any luxuries such as heat so until the day comes that involves just turning a thermostat, working on the car is not a cold weather past time.
If I could only convince my wife to allow me to attempt getting it in the living room

 

I know the feeling for the need for heat...I have a new garage door coming next Friday, then I can fire up the garage heat, but until then, no worky....

 

Why don't you look at getting a kerosene heater. They are pretty cheap and would raise the temp in your garage enough to make it comfortable to work on your hotrod. Hell I use a little electric space heater. It takes a while but it warms it up enough in the garage to work comfortably....of course it is only 40-50 outside, not -15.

I think you will be pleased with the P&P results. I really was. I didn't touch the heads though. I didn't want to while they were on the motor. But everything else was fair game. I also separated the cooling system while everything was apart. I didn't add the coating to the intercooler though. Their was another post where the results seem to say the benefit wasn't worth the trouble...but they were talking about wrapping the intercooler and not just shipping it to Rob....big difference in applied effort there! Good luck!

It's a frigid 80 something where I live today. You should've seen the sweat pouring off my brow washing the car this morning.

I may, eventually, do a P&P and thermal coating to the bottom of the supercharger, but not yet.

Cleaned up around injectors didn't touch the rest of head ports.

I'm going to port match manis instead of gasket match.

 

Well, no wonder it's not running up to snuff... someone left rags stuffed in the intakes!

I look forward to your progress and findings. I've done next to nothing with mine to date aside from regular oil changes and a set of plugs and wires. The occasional dealer mandated fuel injector flush/cleaning, but not much else.

I've got nearly 70k on this thing now and wonder about what I should be looking for on mine before the warranty runs out. (100k , 7 year Extended Warranty... in case you were wondering)
