Air Pump Problem - (common)?
Air Pump Problem - (common)?
I came home, shut the car off today and something under the hood was still running. Popped the hood and it was what I think is the Air Pump was running & hot (drivers fenderwell). I unplugged it to get it to stop. waited about 20 minutes , plugged it back in and it is still running. Started the car rev'ed it up a few times, held it @ 2,500 RPM for 20 seconds or so, shut her down & it's still running.
Anybody ever have this problem?

Just hoping someone else had the same problem so I know were to start looking or what to expect on repairs.

I wonder if I should just take it in & let Chrysler replace the RCM. Mike, do you know if it is an open contact or a little enclosed relay. I've not had a chance to look at it at all, other than unplugging it. I figured I would locate the relay & meter it out to see if it was stuck closed. And I didn't know if it was a small control module that was sealed & would need replaced.
Thanks, Steve

I'm guessing you've been there/done that? That would beat paying $100 deductable @ Chrysler. I probably should look into what a new RCM module cost in case I need to replace it.
I gotta ask with a screen name like tunaglove, are you a freelance gynecologist?

Steve,
As noted, you can access the contacts. If you have the MaxCare, I would let them replace the RCM...$100 is cheaper than the RCM price... but free is a good price too, if cleaning the contacts does it for you...
You could do the swap first and confirm the diagnosis.. then take it in...

But mainly no start issues & cracked solder joints, but also could be an O2 sensor problem too. I may pull the one out of my other as you said to confirm thats where "run all the time" problem is. I have a feeling though that it's going to the dealership & I'll just do the $100 and also have them look at a possible powersteering leak. There is no heavy dripping or leakage, but I can smell it and everything down in that area has a slightly moist build up. Unless they want to charge me $200 for two different problems.

Sounds like the contacts stuck together.
If I could get folks to send me their bad RCM's I could start switching out the Air Pump relay with other relays on the RCM.
