Default SRT-6 or 350Z?

Hey everyone,

Im looking for a nice commuter car...I have never driven a SRT-6...had a 350Z back in 2003 ..sold it in 2006...recently sold my 300 SRT8 after a year...wasnt a huge fan of it cause its weight...I have bought a LS 460L now as a family car but have been relocated for work about 1 hour away...dont want to drive the Lexus...need something fun and small and automatic...so here I am...I know how the 350Z is but ...what should I expect? Will be test driving one in the next day or 2.

How about reliability?Im looking to spend under 15K...I know it might have higher mileage...I dont mind an accident either..as this would be for work and the gym.

Let me know your thoughts...anyone had both before?

Manny

WoW without a doubt, hands down SRT-6. Better looking, a lot better performing (straight line and similar twisties) and more reliable. 350zs are cool, nice interior, good handling cars but srt takes the cake here. a few bolts on, run 11s..

the brakes actually work on the srt6 too.

on the road course, the track instructors always mention the 350z/370z and the brakes lol. they said they have experienced the horrible brake fade riding in the 350/370z's and it is not fun.

350z. several reasons. First, after you realize how nice, quick, and well engineered the srt is... You will not want to put it through daily driving abuse.Especially racking up miles and going to the gym with it. Next, even though the car is very reliable, daily driving might cause some repairs somewhere down the line and since it MB it will be expensive. Also, the srt isnt that practical. Oh yea we all rather have an srt get into the hands of an enthusiast!! Seriously though, I bought an srt thinking i was going to drive it too and from work, gym, grocery store etc.... Well after i realized everything i just mentioned. I bought a civic as a daily.

so far my car has been super reliable, it is a lot of fun and very unique. you rarely ever see a srt6 which is one of the big pluses in my book. I do not like having a car you see everywhere.

Also, it is factory boosted so it is easy to make hp with it. look at my picture thread here or search mrphotomantim on youtube for a few vids if you have some time.

Just bought and 04 Coupe. Only 5600 miles on it! Garage Kept, never driven in rain. Rare find, but I've seen lot's of options for both coupes, roadsters and SRT-6's in the 11 to 17 range -- many with well south of 60K miles. Lot's of options for locating, including on the Forum here. Depending on where you are, some options will be better than others. Don't discount searches on Edmunds/Auto Trader, Cars.com, etc. There are many sites where you can search from your desktop -- with many already having the CARFAX available for viewing. You can search by price, distance, color, mileage, etc (which I'm sure you know). If you don't care about accident vehicles, you should be able to bargain quite a bit more on those.

I love mine so much I'm considering getting another one. I'm communiting in mine now but would like to keep the mileage low on this one and use another (like you) for communting (or may be taking my other car back from my son when he goes to college next year). The miles are so low on my 04 I'd love to keep it that way -- because this one will be a collectors car at some point and I expect prices to begin to increase in the future.

Good luck.

Murdered a Nismo 370 on the interstate a few weeks back. I'm glad I got the SRT over a Z.

Same here. I bought the SRT as a DD but ended up getting a Prius to handle my 80 mile/day commute. No way can the SRT handle a daily commute in comfort! But it sure is fun to drive.

Really?? I drive my SRT 50 mile round trip to and from work through city traffic, and highways out to the 'burbs every day. The only time I don't use it is if we are getting a snow storm. After the roads are plowed I use it. It sits outside at work in below zero weather and fires right up. The heated seats work great. After adjusting the seat just right I actually think my car is quite comfy and I'm 6'1". Never tried a 350Z but the are so stupid looking YUCK!

I drive my coupe every day to work, however the vert is a garage queen.............
So the answer is buy 2 whilst they are cheap........
Only problem with using daily, is the HIGH probability of speeding tickets, or worse......
Pulled up next to a C6 Z06 the other day, and shocked the **** out of him when I didn't disappear in his rearview mirror.............

I've been driving mine to and from work everyday for years in rain/snow/sleet and summer. Never had a major issue.

Ive owned a Z and now own a SRT6. Depends what u want.. I think they are more or less the same kind of cars. Personaly i found the Z was a fun cruising car, decent response from the lights and the interior is pretty sweet, better than the SRT in my opinion. I got bored of the NA engine and didnt think it had enough power for me. The abrupt power on tap and sheer excitment of this engine is what sold me hands down, its by far a more exciting car to drive in comparison so if i was you take the leap and buy an SRT6 u wont regret it!

Same here, as long as you don't try and push the car too hard in the winter, you will have no issues.

I dont know about snow but in the wet ive never had problems.

Ive driven hard in the rain on this one occasion. I wanted to experiance it so I tried it out on a wide long road in an industrial area from a dig several times. I was suprised how relatively easy it is to control the car and accelerate quickly. Not once was my hand forced to correct the steering wheel or lose control

If u drive it sensibly theres no way you would have problems

I found the SRT is like Lays potato chips.

You can't have just one!

Z-car. Never even considered it.

You will get the most unbiased opinions about the srt6 on this forum .

I love the 6 but i will admit daily commuting this thing on rough city roads can be slightly uncomfortable. The shocks and springs are very stiff! This car also has very little road feel through the steering wheel (its a mercedes). Other than that this car is sweet and handles nice and looks amazing when you take car of it. Nothing like being able to take 99.9% of the cars you encounter from a dig .
