SRT6 or ?
Re: SRT6 or ?
I own.. among others... the SRT6... and a Shelby Cobra GT500 (with mods dyno'ed at 540 RWHP)... and a previous owner of an 05 Mustang GT (with mods of CAI, exhaust, tune).
ALL different creatures, to be sure... but if you accept my 'voice of experience' as it pertains to your question...
Let me assure you. You will NOT be disappointed in the SRT6 performance. It has the 'guts' of most any 'stock' stang you've ever been in, and probably way more than most. And I feel certain your wife will love the car instantly!
As a previous owner of an 04 Xfire which my wife and I purchased new... we loved the car and drove it for a couple of years before she decided she needed more room (hauling kids/grandkids). With the Xfire, it's definitely one driver/one passenger -- not even the 'hint' of a backseat that the stang offers. That said, we traded in '06 and missed it continuously and always talked about 'why we ever traded that one in'... always with a touch of regret.
But we've had many many cars and rarely ever 'look back' at once was.
A couple of months ago, a good friend advised me that there was an SRT6 for sale, at a very very good price and we LEAPT at the opportunity. Not many cars will draw us back for a second season You'll like it.. but take the opportunity that has been offered you and your wife, and go for a 'test' spin
My opinion.. not 'slanted' just 'informed' ... for what it's worth.

I would definitely find a local member to take you for a ride in a SRT6 (or SLK32 if you have no other options ). You won't regret it. It is plenty of power, and like a couple of other people have said, unless you require a 10s car...nothing will beat it for the price.
Let us know if we can help check one out for you before you buy.

It all depends what you are looking for. Sure there are cars that can go faster or have a potential of going faster but the srt is a very civilized and reliable performer. Its also a very nice looking car. Only con would be its space and practicality.
I bought my SRT because my wife and I were looking for a 2 seat convertible for weekend trips, etc.; found the SRT at Carmax, and got it for just under blue book last Nov. It's a 2005 Roadster, had 14,615 miles on it, and as soon as I drove it I was done for; I had a checkbook w/ me and there was no haggling (as expected) - less than $20K for a car that stickered at $49K+ when new.

and therein is the simple truth! How to adjust your mirrors properly.... so many people don't even do this.... if you can see the same thing in your side mirrors that you see in your insider rearview mirror, then you are not adjusting your mirrors properly!
Many many people think they need to see the side of the cars in their outside mirrors, just barely in view... and then they think it's 'right'... Not so. In reality, if you adjust the drivers side outside mirror to see down the side of the car --- when your head is entirely against the window !!! --- and the passenger side with your head over the center console... then you are way more likely to have adjusted them correctly.
The thing to do is to make sure that the outside mirrors are 'extensions' to the inside mirror, not duplicates!

Like you I have always been a V8 guy.
It is true, you will not get the same roar and feel out of the SRT-6 as a V8. It is a much smoother more refined feel to me, but still silly fast. It will put a smile on your face everytime you make an offering to our blessed lady of acceleration!
Although the point is valid and well taken on the mirror adjustment, the rear vis in the roadster still sucks. I guarantee your wife will not like this aspect of the car. IMHO that is not a bad trade for unique looks and a opportunity to own a rare, performance car loaded with safety features and all the tech goodies MB could put in it.
Good luck

Re: SRT6 or ?
You must like drag racing. Mustangs have very high final drives for acceleration at the cost of top end speed. Crossfires and most Mercedes' are much the opposite. It is very wierd to beat the same cars on the highway that smoked you off the red light 2 days ago, but its fun to top out higher than 3 and 4 hundred horsepower cars with a 215 hp 2-seater. I recently detuned my limiter and just barely nosed over 170mph on the gps with a stock N/A. A week later, just over 175 with the only difference being racing fuel. Both records took a while and she made it clear she had nothin more left. (Will try to upload the pics soon) But as a cost, our 0-60 time is a modest 6 seconds. Crossfires will also out-handle any Mustang in a heartbeat. The moral of all this is that Crossfires and Mustangs are total opposites and it will be a very different feeling for you to get used to. If you love V8's so much and you have 15-20k to spend, then go get an N/A for 11-13K and put a Mercedes V8 in for 3-5K. Then you'll be at 14-18K Total. From what threads I've seen on here, the swap is fairly easy since everything's similar and the guy who's done it on here has walked cars with 6-digit pricetags.Talk to LantanaTX and tell him you're story. He can tell you much more than I can. I'm starting to do a V8 swap myself. The ceremonial start of the process will be the removal of the hood and the main event of my 20th Birthday party this Sunday.

Re: SRT6 or ?
Found a SRT6 @ a dealer that happens to be on way to the lake were I keep my boats... Plan is to take it for a test spin on the way down... I will be curious to see if fills my need for speed and also to see what the wife thinks...
Side note, I hate weathermen... 10% chance of rain here yesterday, so I drove the Mustang. Rained like hell on the way home. Had to use the wiper for the first time in 10 years.

Re: SRT6 or ?
I have had a 2006 N/A roadster since May of 2009. It always seemed "fast" enough for me. I got a tune at the CAA and then it seemed just a little faster. Monday, I drove 90 minutes each way to a dealership in order to test drive a SRT6 for the first time. All you guys are correct. What a difference. It was awesome!!! I told my wife that I wanted to buy it (and still keep my roadster). Now I am trying to figure out if I will still be able to afford to buy it after the divorce....

Re: SRT6 or ?
90 LIMITED,
My suggestion would be the SRT6. I have owned my share of mustangs and and other fast cars. I simply love my SRT6, the handling is awesome and the fit and quality are exceptional. I purchased my car because my wife gave me a piece of advise she said for me to purchase a car that would make me happy, and not spend more money on mods and more mods. I too looked at a vette and several mustangs including another Saleen and a Shelby. Honestly for the price no other car compares these cars. These cars are a great value and since you are purchasing this car used you are getting a deal since the previous owner absorbed the depreciation of the car. On the down side the aftermarket is more limited than your other two choices and more costly. Good luck on your future choice.
