Changing the Supercharger Oil
Re: Changing the Supercharger Oil
Great job, and thanks for the writeup. I have 40,000+ on mine and will do this at next oil change, along with brake pads, brake fluid, and maybe diff fluid.
I feel a difference in a fresh oil change, do you notice anything like charger wine is smoother or less at speed? Just curious.

I filled the 6oz oil can twice (not full) and did not need the complete second can full.
Plus I wasted some oil in the water bottle .
I would guess 1 can will do at least 4 -5 changes.

First I have the pulley saver kit installed which made the oil change easier than with out the kit.
The relocation of the small pulley leaves access to the oil plug open enough so that I did not have to remove ANYTHING. (not a pulley, or even the belt)
To prepare I purchased or had available for the task:
- Supercharger Oil, Mobil Jet Oil II (best price found HERE)
- 5 mm Allen wrench, yes Allen not Torx.
- New 6 oz pump oil can
- 2 or 3 feet of ¼” clear tubing.
- MityVac brake vacuum bleeder (could use any suction pump or a syringe)
- Teflon tape
- Paper towel (don’t use a towel you wan to re-use, more on this later)
- Floor jack

something I'm definitly going to have to do. With nearly 90K on the
clock, an no indication in the service records that this has ever been
done, I'm pretty sure the oil in my supercharger is shot. I will say,
though, that I've had no evidence (that I've noticed) of any problems
as of yet. Sounds like a project for this weekend.
Thanks for the tip on where to get the oil and the procedure!

Re: Changing the Supercharger Oil
Yup, just did mine as well. It really is a snap. The hardest part was not dropping the allen wrench and plug into my engine bay. Since I had so much extra oil I ran the engine and repeated to sort of give it a flush. Airplaneoils.com has a decent price, but the shipping almost doubles the order. If you keep an eye on ebay, cans show up there pretty frequently for quite a bit less. I got two cans of the stuff for 12 bucks plus 6.95 shipping. Also, just a fyi we can also use the mobil jet 254. It's the 3rd gen in the MJ oil line. There are also 4th gens out, but haven't gotten approvals yet. Some specs on MJ II:
Mobil Jet II is only 5 cSt @ 100C, which would make it a 0W-10 if there was such a grade. And it can handle sump temperatures of 400+F while being pumpable at -65F.

Everything I found on ebay was "vintage" so I thought I would just go "fresh"
I am sure if you waited it would come up on ebay in something other than the 55 gallon drums I was finding (talk about a life-time supply)

Re: Changing the Supercharger Oil
anyone know hwat happenen to the actual DIY part of this thread?????? I am about to change the oil and wanted to make sure I have the right steps. It seems pretty straight forward, but its hot outside and the easier and less time I have to take figuring something out would be greatful
