Default Engine flutter? Normal?

I did a little search, but didn't come up with what I was looking for. Just picked up this car with a NW CAI, C3 pulley, rear cats removed, and LET tune. Runs hard and strong, but has a funny little flutter/light clicking I presume when the SC engages. I'll hear it at part throttle, but more pronounced at 3/4 or full throttle. Would this be the pulley bearing going?

It also reminds me of a normal N/A V6 engine noise...like the 4.0L on the Jeeps they had for so long...just kind of a normal drivetrain noise. Unfortunately, on the SRT-6 it detracts from the beautiful SC whine and the exhaust note...

Any ideas? Is there a normal light flutter in the engine noise?

SOUND CLIPS ADDED!!!!!

Windows Up:
SRT-6 flutter (windows up) - SRT-6 noise when under load, windows up, "flutter", also SC whine seems very quiet for NW CAI and C3 pulley.

Windows Down:
SRT-6 flutter (windows down) - windows down, under 40 mph in 2nd gear

I get a stutter at about 1600-2000 rpms when i part throttle from a stop, i just assumed it was the electronic cluth on the blower engaging and disengaging. It never did this with the stock pulley maybe its just a side effect of the overdrive pullies?

None on mine. Not normal if it didn't do it with the car stock. No matter how modded your car should still run right.

Never seen this issue on the forum before....Do you know how many miles are your SRT6 with the C3 pulley?

I've noticed quite a few of the "highly modified" SRT6's showing up on the market these days....

I'm guessing around 20,000 miles with the C3 pulley. Car currently has 33,000 miles. Runs great...it's just the noise. I honestly can't remember if my stock black SRT-6 had the same noise, but I don't think so.

I'm kinda wondering if it's just normal V6 engine noise and I am picking it up and making it a bigger issue.

Maybe I'll see if I can get a video of the sound......

I've noticed this too (with both cars I had)...I'm pretty sure this is normal. You mean like a little hesitation almost before the car reacts to throttle response.

or are you talking about just simple the noise that can be heard....

and your not talking about the sc pulley bearing making the noise?

Right you can feel it not really hear it. Just like a very minor hesitation when light part throttle from the stop at approx 1800 rpms. almost like there is a slight pullback on the throttle. I think its just the clutch on the SC engaging. Most wouldn't even notice it but i notice every little bump burp or hickup the car makes. under moderate throttle or fullthrottle i never notice it. Thats the reason i just assume its the SC clutch engaging.

But i never really hear any noise accociated with it. Its more of a feel. Under such light load the extra drag on the crank from the SC is enough to actually feel like a slight hesitation for a split second.

or it could be the start of a CSP sensor problem....the hesitation is normal if not running SB...but only on the immediate start..should clear up just as quick...

Satellite,

I know EXACTLY what sound you are talking about, and I have been asking the same question to a lot of different people. It seems more pronounced when the RPMs are low and you press the gas 1/4 to 3/4 of the way without downshifting.

Every time I've asked, people look at me like I'm crazy. I think it's just the natural sound of the V6, more specifically the FUEL INJECTORS. My SRT6 is still stock, and I hear it.

It annoys me, because it sounds like something is messed up. If you find anything, let me know.

EDIT: One more thing, I noticed that the fluttering becomes more frequent (gets faster and faster) as the RPMs increase, up to the point where the engine noise from the higher RPMs cancels out the fluttering and you can't hear it anymore. I hear it the most when I'm passing someone without pressing the gas much.

I've noticed this as well, and ProjectMayhem is dead on about the symptoms (last paragraph pretty much sums it up). In my case, this symptom is separate from the fluttering that satellite is talking about (and I'm sure it's the same for him).

I quess I'm lost on what constitutes "fluttering". LOL...mine are both smooth as silk....no noise, no hesitation, but once in a great while when I first start her up...it's like the cps...isn't doing its thing...shut it off, restart, and it is fine...now that new SB...dang...breath on the throttle and look out....lol

I went through this problem with Rob,,,,,,, he told me how to check it ,mine makes a chirp when the S/C clutch kicks in ,,put the car in 1st and pull out slow until S/C ingages and see if it makes the same sound,, , mine actually kicks in around 10 to 15 mph making the chirp,,,,didn't do it with stock pulley

Well...video didn't pan out to well. The camera can't pick up on the sound I'm hearing over wind noise and engine.

I'm pretty sure it's either the pulley bearing just starting to make some noise...OR...just normal V6 sounds and I am being EXTREMELY picky about the noise. I tend to be very paranoid about car noises...lol.

I will put up a video about something interesting I did find though...uploading it now. I'm newer to SC applications so could be no big deal.

The audio isn't the greatest? have you localized the sound at all?

You could always run it with the belt off for about 30 seconds. If the sound goes away then its a pulley, pump, altenator or something. It wont hurt the car just dont run it for more than a minute or so.

I'm pretty sure you and I are hearing the same thing. It's not terribly loud, but enough to make me wonder if it's something I should keep an eye/ear on...

mine has the same fluttering/wheezing sound that is most prominent at 3/4+ throttle when I'm passing someone ... it sounds like it is coming from the passenger side, and sounds kind of like if a piece of paper was stuck in a bicycle spoke, then when you are going fast, it hits the wheel brace part repeatedly

I can't hear it with the windows up and the radio on, but definitely hear it with the top down. I'm fairly certain it did not make the sound when stock. My car has 20k miles on it.

it doesn't make the sound at idle

I did a search on "bad bearing" noises, and it sounds nothing like the "rocks rattling around" sound.
