Default Noobie Here

Please don't laugh; but how do you release those stock hose clamps/crimps @ the end of the stock airbox, like to change the filters? I didn't want to scratch everything up trying.

So..... over 50 forum members have viewed my post here and no one has bothered to respond. I'm not feeling real welcome as a new member here. I'm somewhat mechanically inclined, but all the hose clamps that I've ever dealt w/ are a simple slotted screwdriver or 5/16" nutdriver. These clamps I've never seen before. Perhaps I'm in the wrong forum category to ask this simple question? We have an SRT so I thought it was the right place, but maybe this is just for the elitist older members (not me). I'll try somewhere else, sorry.

Sorry no one has answered your questions....I don't have the stock air boxes anymore...but when I get home in the morning, I will look and tell you.....but it's has been a while since I changed those filters a few years back, but I don't remember having to remove any hoses...filters lay in the boxes on top...but, I will look and let you know unless someone wants to step up....I use Needswings dual cai w/ K&N's...you can replace your stock ones with K&N's as well...but most are upgrading to a better Cold Air Intake...

I replaced my air intake with Needswings CIA too. But you should be able to open the stock air boxes with a allen wrench. I don't know what hoses you are talking about.

no secrets here...CAI...not CIA...lol....don't confuse them....and yes, the top boxes just open up and the filter are right there...one on each side...I just couldn't remember what held them in....so I guess they are allen heads, and not torx...good luck...

expecting an immediate reply on a weekend is asking a bit much. getting pissy about it just invites ridicule. ever hear of the search engine? if you really wanted to know how to get to your air filters theres a full service manual at your disposal, try searching there. you only need to be smarter than the clips, because you dont remove them at all. loosen the torx bolts in the tops of the airbox and pry the box up with the hose attached. remaove the filters and replace.
now go back to your room and stand in a corner for an hour for being a jerk!

You should upgrade to Needswing's CIA intakes.

I appreciate your response; thank you oledoc2u. I was dropping in new K.&N. filters and it's much easier to remove the clamp to remove the stock lid and place filters and the new gasket they supply. But since I did this I have purchased a CAI from Rob w/ the newer/bigger K.&N. Xstream filter. After seeing everyones mods here on this site including yours..... how could I resist! But I'm still interested in finding out about those clamps, if you get the chance. Thanks again. Bob

Welcome aboard. I have the NA, so I can't help either, but I'm sure they are not much different. Pull up the air box off, remove the torx screws, and open the box. The filters are inside.

Removing the hose clamps(not clips) are the best and easiest way to remove the lid completely from the car and is what the K.&N. instructions tell you to do. Because they supply a self adhesive gasket that goes under the lid, it's much easier to apply this out of the car, rather than bending it up and doing it upside down leaning into the engine bay(which is what I did). I don't need a manual to learn how to change an air filter in any vehicle. It's just that I've never come across a hose clamp w/o a screw type tightener. I wasn't trying to be a jerk, and I guess If you knew the answer, you would have told me?

your quite right i would have told you and i did. i just read your thread and replied. the filters go into the lower part of the airbox and the top fits over it. the clamps req. a special tool to reinstall so dithch them and use worm clamps.
as i said before theres a 1000+ page service manual for your use free of charge. maybe you should read a bit before you bend a wrench if the clamps give that much trouble to you.

FYI; I did try the search first, so I wouldn't have to bother you. But there's no mention of this odd (for me)clamp. I enjoy what everyone has to offer on this site; just not your attitude. Respect your elders son! They most always know more than you do. I'm no stranger to modding vehicles, just new to the SRT6 (wifes new midlifecar).

You still didn't answer the question. I wanted to know how to remove those clamps. K.&N. supplies new worm clamps to use after ditching the stock ones. Perhaps you need a "special tool" to remove them as well?? If you knew that; why wouldn't you just say so? How did you remove those clamps, what tool? Thanks for your warm welcome to this (new to me) Forum.

The only way to remove them is to remove the intake assembly. Then you'll see they slide on from the front. Your doing the best thing and just remove the whole assembly and store it away. Install your new NW and call it good. Don't let the slk guys bother you, when they grow up they want to be an SRT with all the NW goodies.

Thank god Man! I knew there was something amiss w/ that fellow. Thanks for getting this answered for me. I'm a Highly Modded Ford 6.0 Powerstroke owner. It's pretty damn quick for 7600#, but nothing like this new little pristine SRT6 SSB. I got this for Dina with only 5,600 miles on it, fresh Mobil1 changed @ 3,000miles! She's wondering how so many miles have gotten on it since we got it! Can't wait for the new CAI coming in a few days. Bob
