Re: Surge...Looking for input.
The only times I've suffered surging at any speed I later discovered the upper manifolds loose. Not just loose but so loose I could tighten them with my fingers. It's real easy to check and if they are real loose new gaskets are in order. Don't over tighten them though.

Re: Surge...Looking for input.
I had a similar issue that was described in the beginning of the thread...
What fixed the issue for me was driving with traction control off, as was recommended by a previous post.
I only have ~8k on my Johnson Pump, and no leaks present. I.e. My issue had nothing to do with the IC pump.
So before replacing the pump I would recommend trying this free quick "fix".

Re: Surge...Looking for input.
First thing I do when I get in the car is turn off the traction control, so that can't be it for me. I've also double checked all the intake fittings but nothing seems loose. I 'm going to try the spray bottle trick as mentioned on the service manual to check for any air leaks before replacing the pump. The car has 37K miles on the original pump and I don't have any loss of power issues, just the surge.
