*Needed* 25 to build Wavetrac Limited Slip Diff unit
*Needed* 25 to build Wavetrac Limited Slip Diff unit
Finally got a response from Wavetrac, no response from numberous e-mails to Quaife.
Looks like I need to find 24 more people that would be willing to buy one for them to produce a unit... I was hoping they would do it with 10-15 confirmed.
See thier e-mail below. I know this is kinda expensive, but who is 'seriously' interested?
*EDIT* Looks like we have 10 interested so far between Benzworld and Crossfire Forums
Also note: This will fit the SLK32, SLK320, Crossfire SRT-6 & N/A

e-mail reponse:
Thank you for your interest in Wavetrac.
Sorry for the delay in response, we had a website/email issue.
As you know the phantom grip solution does not solve a spider gear failure. The only real solution is to build a stronger diff, and the Wavetrac is not only stronger, but will transform the way the car handles and accelerates, and is maintenance free. A Wavetrac can certainly be built for your application, we just need to produce enough of them to make the price sensible. We would need a sample rear axle and axle flange/inner joint to be able to design a replacement. The price for a diff like this depends on quantity made, and similarity to other current designs. I would estimate that with an order for at least 25 units in hand, that we could produce a Wavetrac that could sell between 1300-1500 dollars each.
If that sounds possible to you, please get in touch with me and we can sort out how to get started.
Regards,
Dana

This unit would replace the stock carrier (with the spider gears). You use your stock housing, bearings, and ring/pinion.

I would recommend that you send this company a complete pumpkin to verify that their unit will fit in the space. We tried this last year with a manufactor in Atlanta, he was certain he could build us a LSD looking at the prints. When he recieved the unit, he found that our rear housing is very small and the assembly is not straight in from the rear. Until your company has an actual pumpkin to work with, it's all just a sales pitch. Just my 2 cents.

allen i spoke with shawn at autotech and he said he brought the slk32 diff upo at the company meeting and was told they werent interested in building a diff for our cars.
if its a drop in to replace our diff im interested. as the other members have said it may be worth the cost to send a pumpkin to them. it cant cost to much to ship a housing as they wont need the gears will they?

Re: *Needed* 25 to build Wavetrac Limited Slip Diff unit
They technically only need the internal carrier. Since you will bolt your stock gear onto the LSD assy and install it back into your housing. I agree that I'd rather them have the whole housing also so they can be sure that it will fit in the small space allotted.
As far as cost to ship... well, i paid $120 to get my junkyard unit sent to me from Florida (I'm in GA). The 3.27 unit i bought from one of the forum members said it was $60 from TX to me... I know this doesn't sound like much, however I don't have money to throw away right now. However, I'll do what I can to get this ball rolling.
As far as gears... if we can't run a different ratio because of the TCU, then why would I want to have someone make me a different ratio?

look at the wavetrac or quaiffe prices. ranging from 800 to 1300 $ depending on the car. thats for a diff thats being produced. factor in this diff isnt made and they have to build it from scratch it 1100 isnt a bad price.
