Default Srt-6 Owners - Help Needed!!!

Morning XF SRT-6 owners, I need your input on something. I'm from NYC and I have an '05 SRT-6, 20k miles. the car is parked most of the time since I don't drive much during the week.

I recently notice a "knocking" sound or more or so a grinding sound coming from under the hood. I took it to a friend of mines who is a mechanic; he took the cover off the hood and told me that it's coming from the Supercharger but more or so the front of it, near the pulley and drive belt. If you take your hand and rub the Supercharger from the back of it to the front, you'll almost instantly feel it near the front. It sounds like there are bearings in it that may be dried and grinding but he wasn't sure. Either that or the Supercharger is going bad . I was advise not to drive it until he can open it up and see what's going on; in the event that any parts cease up or break, it can potentially drop down in the engine which could then be a disaster.

Anyway, have anyone experience this problem? Do tell. Otherwise all other advise would be appreciated, thanks in advance!!!

Do you have an extended warranty?
The shaft in the supercharger should not be turning because you are not at the required rpm to engage the clutch on the SC and the SC will not engage when in park. Based on that and your description of the noise being to the front I would look at your clutch and pulley. Did you put an aftermarket pulley on the SC? Some of the earlier aftermarket pulleys were apt to come apart.
With what little there is to go on, I don't think you have a supercharger failure, I would look toward the SC clutch and pulley.
I work in the city, if you are close by I could look at it after work.

I would have to agree...something engaging clutch, or a pulley failure...doubt it is the s/c....

hay guys the SC will turn by the air being drawn through it even at idle,, if you take a rag you should be able to stop the (black clutch) 1 " thick right behind the sc pully,,, i would remove the belt and check every pully by hand you can also start the motor ti be sure it is not a lifter or something jim

Thank you Jim!
Yes your SC WILL turn even at an idle. It just isn't engaged so as Jim stated you can stop the SC itself from turning using the technique he described.
Of course there is still a bearing located in the clutch that could be going bad and that would have the grinding sound you described.
You could use Woody's hose to the ear trick to localize the sound.
If all else fails you could give the car to me!
