thanx i have that link. as you can see the center piece just doesnt fit the boxes. its ok but you know its an addon. i need my looks as well as performance. and becuase ill never go to the 181 or 185 crank pullies i know ill never be the fastest so i kept the oem boxes to keep the looks.

BUT. I do have a sl55 cover sitting in my Dorm if you want me to take a pic of it next week... It would deff have to be refitted though.
Re: The endless pursuit of the perfect intake…
without a doubt the needswings dual cai is the top dog.
kolme if you look at the boxes and the cover you will see the size difference. thats were i kept mine looking oem
i had a sl55 full setup with the cover. it wont fit our engines due to the diff. placement of the filter and oil cap. to much cover not enough engine!

i know scotts is a very good setup its what i copied for mine!
Re: The endless pursuit of the perfect intake…
I hit max boost with the SL55 last year at the track....that was before the 240 intake mani mod though...that mod dropped my boost down to 18psi....until I added the NW Dual CAI...
Both setups work very well.... I would have to say that the NW dual does flow better just from the smooter path the air has to take...
The reason I went witht the SL55 intake in the first place was that I did not like the looks of the single CAI in the engine bay. I figured the dual SL55 setup was at least as good as the single CAI and looked balanced. I would still be using it except for some fortuitous circumstances. I love the NW Dual CAI. It works great and looks great.... just my view...
I guess I could take both setups to the track and test them back to back.....

Re: The endless pursuit of the perfect intake…
Has anyone tried an SL55 intake BUT removing the filters from the boxes, adding 3 " piping and have dual pods behind the grill? I'm thinking of trying that.
My theory....the SL55 box or even the stock boxes can fit more air in them (without there block filters) in the same length as the 3" NW pipe can, SO if you just add 3" piping to the box it and pair it with dual pods it should technicaly be able to carry more air then the dual 3" pipe set up.

Stock SRT6 airbox and filter
SRT6 airbox with a credit card betwen the filter and the box
SL55 Intake with a K&N filter
SL55 Intake box w/ K&N filter and credit card
The filter in the SL55 airbox sits about 1/2 inch from the bottom - providing freer, more even airflow around the entire filter.
I've seen some N/A guys use a similar setup to your idea with the factory airbox - but never seen it done with a stock SRT6 intake.
The radiator support openings are squeezed down in size with the factory plastic feeds. I remember someone dynoed with the Stock SRT6 intake but removed the plastic intake hoses and gained considerable HP (with the hood open)
I say the best test is to dyno a dual NW and a SL55 (w/K&N filters) back to back with clean filters and the OEM grill mounted in place. A bench flow doesn't test both intakes under the normal operating conditions of the engine. IMO they both come out ptretty close. Then take a sawsall and enlarge the driver side passs thru to a full 3" and run em agian.
That would be a fair test.

Re: The endless pursuit of the perfect intake…
Thanks for those pictures Brian it really does show just how much bigger the SL55 intake is.
So no one has tried my idea? I'm suprised seems good in theory, my problem is if I'm going to do it I'll have to cut one of my pipes in 2 so I can build it properly but I'm worried if it doesn't perform as good as I'm hoping I'll be left with a single CAI lol, I think I'm going to go for it though all my indicators lead to it being able to hold a larger volume of air then just a straight 3" pipe can. Guess we'll all find out soon.

Thats nice man, I like it when people do nice custom jobs, only thing I'd paint it a different colour from what I know chrome holds in head much more then matte colours.
