Supra Killed
Re: Supra Killed
My friend has a Supra with 455 rwHp. He loves those 30 mph starts you get in street racing. I won't give him the satisfaction of a street race but instead torture him with a challenge to race me in the 1/8 mile. His turbo lag would give me a big jump. Trading my SRT-6 for one? Not a chance. Its too weird of a driving experience. You will go from wondering if the car is stalled and needs a push to having your head plastered to your seat. The waste gate explosion is rediculous too.

now i'm running 12.9 at 110 at 2800 DA with a 2.2 60' (street tires) and feathering the throttle through first (lots of spinning still).
remember, its a c32 (heavy). not light like the srt6.
again, mod was the evosport 178. everthing else was stock.
my post information from mbworld about it:
"Raced a Mark IV Supra. Automatic, stock twins, BPU (intake, exhaust) on race gas (100 octane). Went from a 40 mph roll to 120 and got beaten by at least 4-5 car lengths. I was in mid second for some reason and he was at the top of first. I wasnt in my powerband, so we went from a slower roll at 30 mph when i was in 1st gear. This time, he only pulled about 3 cars lengths. He is brake boosting if you look carefully. I wish i could do that
Also raced a Turbo'd G35 from a dig. He didnt hook up from the launch. Neither did I, but he got less traction than I did. I also jumped a little, as you can see in the video. I had a full car on him up to about 70 and he started pulling back and slowly passed me until about 120, at which he was about a car or car and a half ahead.
Fast cars, good runs, no traffic around.
Link: YouTube - cool night
C32 part starts at around 2:15
PS: ignore the first part of the video before 2:10-ish. the terrible exhaust in the beginning is a 2" exhaust on a 1981 RX-7 with a 5.0 swap in it. the exhaust guy messed it up and it has since been fixed lol.
PSS: like i said in my previous post, i will try to get more videos of races versus supras soon. i've got four buddies with them (just got the motor in the most powerful one today! so exciting) so there should be plenty of opportunities to race them.

Re: Supra Killed
Thanks for posting that up! I really enjoyed those runs. Ive often considered buying a TT Supra I think they stil look really hot if done right, love the back end of them plus they are easily/cheaply modded to get some decent power out of them.
Ive just never been sure how a BPU would go in the real world outside of a track when they really start to get going after 60 (mind you here in Australia we only get J-spec which has less power) So it would take a couple mods to surpass a stock US spec. So far ive been dissapointed im really wanting someone with stock twins in BPU form exhaust, FMIC, downpipes, intake to give me a test. Once you go APU your spending a fair bit of cash.
Deffinately would be interested to see how you go from a dig and roll from 30mph against your mates. BTW what would u be dealing with now What mods do they have?

i'll definitely get some videos in though i will get killed in likely all of assuming they can't launch well from a dig. the whole turbo lag thing is overplayed. if you get the right turbo setup or a ball bearing turbo, you can effectively eliminate a majority of lag. if you brake boost, there will be no lag and you will always be in boost after that in a race (assuming you can drive and your car is tuned properly).
the one i uploaded pictures of i believe has a Precision Turbo PT76. He will be running E85 and is expecting upwards of 730whp after all is said and done.
the one in the video, again, was full BPU plus race gas brake boosting me on the highway
the one i've raced recently is actullay the red one. thats the only picture i have of it. the dealership he bought it from still has one online right here (95 Red TOYOTA SUPRA Turbo for sale in Arizona | Avondale Used Cars Classifieds at LemonFree.com) - i know it says twin turbo, but it isn't. they're dumb. it has an SP59 turbo on it, though stock intercooler for right now. it puts down somewhere in the 450whp+ range we think (he just got it, hasn't dyno'd it though will be within a week or two).
Re: Supra Killed
supra's were great for there time and the 2jz is a legendary engine in the japanese import world. I remember for a long time, it was one of the only cars whose value kepted going up every yr.
I use to really want those cars when they first came out, but there styling looks dated by modern standards. I dont mind a slower car if its has the styling, comfort, and utility, similar to my c32. Then again, i know its a apples to oranges comparison.
I do miss the huge aftermarket parts, and low cost modding of japanese imports though.

Re: Supra Killed
I have owned a 300zx before i use to love the look but I think they look very dated now even with rims etc. supras stock do to It's the front end that looks Especially dated to me but add rims and a kit or even the oem Trd kit makes a huge difference. The 300 is notorious for being unreliable so I'd take a sup any day
