Default 1/4 Advise Please!!

Hi guys I'm going to my local q/mile track on Nov 6th but I need some advise.

I've got my 20's on at the moment I'm thinking of leaving them on at the front but I need advise on whether I should put my 19" SRT wheels on the back or the 18" SRTs with which wheels do you think I'll get the quickest time?

any advise would be great as I've never been to a q/mile track before and really want to pull some great times!

Whichever tires you don't mind melting away. With any street tires you want to drive around the water box, back up a little and burn the heck out of them. Then find the groove and try to launch without spinning. Turn off traction control and make sure your in sport mode.

It all depends on your track prep, but try to help out as much by getting your tires really hot and sticky.

Enjoy and be safe.

Hey cruzinquick thanks for that, the only thing that gets me is the traction control, I feel that with a great take off my car is quicker with traction ON, when its off the car spins to much might have to do a run with it off and one with it on

That's why the launch is so crucial. You have to find the sweet spot where you get a good launch but not spin the tires. The traction control has to be off to get all you can out of the car. Otherwise it will cause the car to hesitate ever so slightly, you may not notice but it could be as much as a tenth.

When you can launch with t/c off and not spin get decent 60' times, then you've mastered the 6. Takes some practice. Even come out with a slight roll and then stomp it. Ease in the throttle at launch. With stock tires I would rev over 1200 rpm at launch. Enjoy.

I don't know about the stomping part! I lost traction everytime.

Evan forgot to tell ya to put the autostick in 1st gear. Heard the car will had the gears longer than if you put it in Drive.

Have fun!

put on whatever wheel/tire combo that is the lightest of the 2, rotational weight is our enemy at the track

Thanks guys all this info is definatly helping!

See my front tyres are Yokohoma 225/40 (18" SRT wheel) and my SRT 19" have Nitto 305/30 so I'm thinking yeah the 18's are lighter but I'm sure they will spin like crazy whereas the 19's are heavier but will grab traction really really well there almost like drag radials lol

Looks like you are 100% stock correct? Added weight in the trunk with the stereo system? If so, I wouldn't worry about spinning too much (depending on track prep and how cold it might be out).

-I would absolutely turn off TC.
-put the car in 1st.
-do your burnout (1st to 2nd shift manually) and drive out of the burnout. 4 sec burnout (just enough to where you see a little tire smoke).
-stage carefully
-once staged bring the car up to around 1800 (this is where the sweet spot is from my testing).
-last yellow, mash it up!

This is just a basic idea of what I do. If you want a more detailed version, that will cost you $100. :P

hahah thanks for that!!!

My car is stock as of now but I'll have a few mods done before I get to the track including a 3" CAI, High flow cats and the secondary cats deleted!

As for stero it's just the amp which is tiny the subs just replaced the original 6.5" subs so no extra weight. damn you sure rev it up to 1800rpm? I'm thinking its gonna spin like an aminal haha.

I cant wait I'm really excited and hoping to get under 13's

All depends on your meats, the track prep and the temps. 1.7 60ft's (on a modded 6) on streets can be done all day on a good track.

I would think that the smallest dia rear tire would be the best for take off and reaching speed sooner?

That's true, it wll hold the gears longer. Problem is the powerband falls off towards redline because of parasitic losses from the supercharger becoming less efficient. You'd be quickest putting it in D or one down from there, 4 and running. Putting it in 4 should give you slightly firmer shifts throughout without running the gears to redline. Try it!

well, there you go, everyone does it just a little different....now that I have a used set of slicks to play with, I can tell a big difference, being able to launch harder....I would drive around the water box...back up to just before the water, brake torque the car to get the wheels spinning, just enough to heat them up and clean them. Ease up to the line, brake torque again to somewhere in the 1200-1500 rpm range, as long as you can hold it and not spin...launch by "stomping on it"....or flooring it, having started in 1st gear, w/ TC, just let go, shift when it shifts...you should end the 1/4 as it shifts to 4th...now breath again and don't forget to pick up your time slip and let us know how you did...
