Default Fan speed set to 0, air still blowing out?

Just noticed tonight that I can't seem to stop the fan from blowing air out of the center two vents. Even with the fan speed cranked all the way to 0. What could cause this????

Try setting the fan to zero and hitting the recycle button. Chances are the air is flowing due to the movement of the vehicle. Not sure it that will work but give it a shot.

I get the same thing in my coupe.
When its blowing in the 0 position will your AC switch light up when pressed?
Mine does.

Just to add a data point to the discussion...

When my fan switch is in the '0' position, I have no air flow, and the
A/C light will not come on. I have to switch to at least '1' to be able
to turn on the A/C and/or have air flow through the vent. Maybe you
have a bad switch, stuck contact?

Maybe YOU have a bad switch and the rest of us have an added feature that YOU didn't get!!

Yeah that's the way it SHOULD work. It never used to do this- I noticed it just last night.

I had the same problem and took it in under warranty and they replaced some relay.

Hi cross<>hair,

Thanks,

That's the way it was designed to work

Drove it again yesterday this time I was keeping an eye on it. Oddly enough when I first get in the car and turn it on it doesn't do it. Fan speed set to 0, no air coming out. However after driving it around a bit then come to a stop, there is constant air being blown out of the center two vents. Bizzare....

Mine does the same thing. I tried look for a solution on other threads but no luck. One member told me to check out my fan control modual. I never did get to it. I can tell you that it gets worse. It started out when I turned on the AC now it does it when I turn on the heater or just outside air. I just bang the side, pull or push the ***** around to get it to stop.

I had this problem 2 years ago and recently had it again. The dealership told me they needed to replace the whole switch unit (both times) and the part cost 800 dollars brand new. This happened to me twice and it sounds like a common problem. It was under warranty so I didn't have to pay!

Thumbs down Re: Fan speed set to 0, air still blowing out?

OK, mine works on position 1 at full speed, switching it to any other selection point doesn't seem to change air output. Is there a chance it relegates the amount of blower speed vs the vent selection **** position? It is frustrating to see the problems with this car and the fact it continually happens even with replacement parts. BTW, mine is an 08 with only 1300+ miles on it bought in July this year.

I think I will hit the service manual set and see how the thing is wired, that will tell me if its dependant on the vent selection, but damn, so many pages and so little time.....

With the door locks being vacuum operated I'd guess that the a/c switch does too? Older GM had the vacuum diverter that would crack and air would go to the defroster vents instead of the normal vents. Could be a similiar situation.
