iphone junkies...
Yes this is fairly OT, but Let's face it, the iphone IMO is one of the best inventions in recent technology. Others have tried to copy it, but fail miserably. It has so much versatility and until you actually use it to it's fullest capabilities, you won't understand. There are so many "Apps" that are just jaw dropping! How could one device do so much?! I won't get into all the cool things this little device does, but if you own an iphone, here are some great apps for you and your 6.
- Dynolicious (Measure your HP, 1/4, 60ft, 0-60, skidpad, G's etc....kinda Like the G-tech Pro and is very accurate! $14.99??)
- REV (a scanner, datalogger, 0-60, G's......Read And clear codes. Datalog and record each run. Very Very useful. $150 for the kiwi wifi device and $39.99 for the App).
-idrag (I just picked this little gem up for $.99! It does just about every calculation there is! Calculate HP, G-forces, dynamic engine compression, spring rates, lateral weight transfers, 1/4 and 1/8 mile estimates based on HP and weight of the vehicle or 1/8mile time and MPH for your estimated 1/4mile time. Injector sizing, Power to weight, Intercooler Efficiency etc etc. There is a ton of conversions on here, but the best thing and the reason I purchased this app was because there is a built in DA calculator. Meaning, I can go to the track, hit "look up weather" and it will tell me my weather (DA, Temp, Hum, Bar, Dew Point etc....for My location). A Very useful app for me as I can make notes on each pass.
-idrag slip (I haven't purchased this yet, but I think I may. It's only $.99 and its basically a personal timeslip management/database app. Meaning, you plug all the numbers from each timeslip in and it shows statistics, Avg's, notes etc...). Could come in handy as timeslips add up to a mess of paper and confusion!
Anyway, I am bored and these are my "App" recommendations.

I will admit, that though I love my BB and would be lost without it...The iPhone presents a different perspective on the way to do business with the use of all of its free apps and business handy tools that can be easily downloaded. I do like my BB better for its Contacts, Calendar, BB Messanger, and email.

Re: iphone junkies.....
The iPhone IMHO is archaic hardware coupled with state of the art software. For instance, when the first iPhone was launched, how many features was it void of compared to other phones that did essentially the same thing? A lot, but most importantly, it lacked 3G speed, wireless N, stereo bluetooth, GPS, true Exchange support and although it could browse the same internet your computer could, it lacked flash support. Then came the iPhone 3G that added 3G speed and GPS and Exchange support but it missed the boat again with stereo bluetooth, wireless N and flash support. They also did nothing with an upgrade to the processing power. Now the iPhone 3G S is here and they added stereo bluetooth and a faster processor but again, no flash support or wireless N. The hardware is always a step or two behind the competition but what makes this device shine is it's software. I'll be the first to admit that it is by far the best mobile email client out there. It pains me to say this though because it is also the worst phone out there as well. If this software was on another platform, one that had the latest and greatest hardware, the cold war of phones would be over and it would be the reining victor but until then, it will just be what I use for email and mobile browsing and I'll keep my little Nokia flip phone, that is just that, a great phone, as my primary device.

They do need to add some features like MMS to it. It pains me that I cannot take a pic and text it to someone. Ugh........Apparently though, this is in the works?? Last I heard was they were going to launch it at the end of the summer.

As for being a phone, the speaker is quieter than a church mouse and the microphone while good at picking up your voice, is also good at picking up an over abundance of background noise. And sending a text is less than enjoyable because you can't use teh good old T9 which was designed for texting. If I want to send an email, I'll do that but when I send a text, it's usually short, to the point and when I'm busy doing something else and it's a pain for me.
Re: iphone junkies.....
Yeah, I just got the REV application and I love it. Trying to do some data logging now to see how much timing is pulled when my IAT's go up.
Most of the time I just keep it on the IAT Guage and see how fast it heats up and cools down or ambient temps vs. IAT's.
I definitely recommend it.

I am sure you know the reason they did not have MMS is because AT&T (as well as other companies) did not have the ability to support the amount of data JUST the iPhone would take with MMS turned on.

Re: iphone junkies...
I currently have an iPhone for work and a Blackberry Curve for personal use. I've had other Blackberries, and while the device is great, it's got nothing on the iPhone. (OK, I do love the Curve's keyboard, but that's about it.)
The single greatest feature of the iPhone is software. That's what it's all about. Sure there's the MMS crap, and its other shortcomings that are slowly being fixed (very slowly, I might add), but the easy and CHEAP availability of software for the iPhone is what makes it great.
The fact is you're gonna carry some hunk of plastic and circuitry in your pocket all the time. Who doesn't have a cell phone? Don't you want that same hunk of plastic to do as much for you as possible? Sure, I could carry around an old Motorola StarTAC if all I wanted was a phone, but why not carry an internet browser, calculator, email, calendar, etc. etc. etc. etc?
I paid $15 for Dynolicious or maybe it was REV, I don't remember. Who cares? I've paid more than that for a round of drinks. The fact is that there is a program for the iphone to do just about anything. A but-load of them are free, most of the rest are 99 cents! Sure there are apps over $100 for the iPhone (most directed at doctors), but again I say: so what? You're paying for PORTABLE - IN-YOUR-POCKET - functionality? How much is that worth to you?
For crying out loud, if you want to ***** about expensive software lets talk about $500 for Microsoft Office! WTF!?! Or if you want to ***** about prices of expensive stuff for our cars, can you think of ANYTHING else you can buy for your Crossfire for less? There isn't much. A DashDAQ with Zietronix and O2 sensor would cost you around $700. Hell, a cold air intake costs $500 and a friggin ECU tune (just software!) costs $500.
If you really want to ***** about the iphone, ***** about AT&T's $30/month "unlimited" data plan which you can't even tether from. Now THAT is bull-sheet.

Anger Management anyone?! LOL
We're on the same page Tom. BTW, little off topic but you did mention the dashdaq, I noticed you posted on their forum about some things. Give me a shout and I'll help you through whatever questions you have. If you don't have my number, PM me yours and I'll give you a call.
