Extreme Makeover: Engine Edition
Re: Extreme Makeover: Engine Edition
I hear you I do 300 mile searches for an SRT-6 every few days and the car is becoming more rare by the day. I don't see many Crossfires on the road maybe 2 in a week if I'm lucky and I'm in San Diego. Sometimes when I'm in another car I'll see 4 in a day .....odd. Well one options which Pontiac guys did since there motors 389,400, 455 became rare is they went to big block chevy's. So quite possibly there is another mercedes six that could possibly be roughly the same size yet be more plentifull and (fuel system) comunicate with our ecu's. If this was discovered those motors could then be tinkered to hell and back while our stocks are left to sit on a stand in the garage.

unlike the chevy or fords of today with hundreds of thousands of cases there are maybe a few thousand of these motors? i dont know how many srt6 were built but there are were 2056 slk32 amg shipped to the us

One engine that looks really promising is the 3.5 in 2005 they had the slk 350 at 268 hp and in late 2007 upped that to 300hp this for an NA would be night and day difference. A mild supercharger or Turbo on either of those engines would yield much greater numbers then the SRT-6 especially on the post 2007 motor. Right now I'm sure there very pricey but in a year or two when the Crossfire motors begin to get up in mileage this might be an option.

Re: Extreme Makeover: Engine Edition
Well 350 crank hp wouldnt be close to the SRT's engine flywheel 330. That motors 300 base you add a supercharger to it with 5-6 lb of boost it should easily be in the 380-395 area, which isnt close to the SRT. Intercool it and add 15 lbs and it would be mid 400's apples for apples it would be a much better starting point then the AMG motor. Unless your talking about comparing it to the 8.
Re: Extreme Makeover: Engine Edition
It's listed as 330 hp thel Euro Model may have had different numbers the 3.5 numbers are shown at 300 but in other add's it shows it as 305 stock. My point was it's a better starting point since stock the amg motor without the forced Induction isn't putting out the numbers of the 3.5 and with equal mod's would surpass the AMG motor and be more available for the future. Also you could do heavy modifications to a 3.5 and avoid the AMG motor abuse for later if you wanted to keep the vehicle for a long time to come.

I went for the "Darth Vader" look, as Glen would say. lol. I don't think the pics do it justice. IMO, it looks much better in person. Also, I need to do some detailing in the engine bay. Enjoy......

Now that you got the dual installed you gotta tell the crowd.........how much better do they feel?? What do you think, your reaction?
Really rips on the take off for me where all the time is lost on the track. If it stops raining, I hope to do better at the track and get some traction this year.
Yeah a sunny Monday.....Woody
