Default IC Pump Failure

So the inevitable happened this week, my Supercharger began to cut in and out while driving. Based on the threads I've read, I'm 99% sure it is the IC pump. I'm covered under my extended 5 year warranty and take it in to CarSense on Monday morning. I'm also having them fix the driver-side bottom seat heater while its there.

This is the first time I'm going in for any kind of service (I do oil and other basics at my local Midas). I bought the car at CarSense in Uwchand, PA. They have an impressive service department and the person I scheduled it with agreed when I said its probably the IC Pump, so keep your fingers crossed. I'll report back on my service experience when its done.

I do have to drive around a bit this weekend. I'm not hurting it by driving it around like this, am I? Other than feeling dog-slow without the SC engaged, it seems to be ok.

How many miles have you got on her, Philly?
I'm curious 'cause this issue seems to pop up around 30-40K or so.
I just passed 50K with the original pump intact & am getting nervous (though I have another Bosch lying around, just in case!).

That may be the longest any pumps have lasted! Wow!

I'm at 11,400 miles. Other than the bottom seat heater on the driver's side, I haven't had any other issues. I think most people's have gone well before 50k. You seem to have gotten a good one!

That is about the mileage mine failed also. It took forever to get it fixed because the dealer went by the book and replaced everthing else even though I "suggested" they look at the pump. After the third time in the shop because they had to order all the other parts they changed I said please for the love of Gawd, check the pump. They did and after the order came in, it was fixed!

Go figure, who would have known the forum knew something.

Funny how they assume that the customer is an idiot until proven otherwise.
Punkin, since you have the Johnson installed did the pump go out again or did you just replace a working Bosch w/ the Johnson?

Sheer luck or maybe it's the highway miles, who knows?

Kurts, since it was a warranty item I let the dealer replace it. Then I purchased a LET IC cooler and Johnson pump. I replaced the Bosch at that time. I now have 43k+ on the car and so far not a hitch. I don't remember the miles when I put on the Johnson but it was sometime ago.

I am having the same thing going on with SRT also but have never had a light come on. The dealer said they can't do anything about it if theirs no light that comes on. I am taking it in for another problem Tuesday how would you address this to them as you have been down that road already?

I have replaced tons of these things, never seen a light come on before. I have seen an error in star diag before.

The problem is that contaminents sometimes get into the system and eventually will break down the blades on the fan. The car thinks its fine, however even though its spinning the fan, the blades are not there anymore...

Cheap and easy fix...

Didn't see this post until just now, but I did end up going to Eurocharged today. Jake was in and getting some work done on an E55. Thanks to Jerry for letting me know Jake was in the shop and thanks a ton to Jake for switching out the pump quickly. Well done.

On a side note: I'm still have the SC disengage...not sure now what it is. I may have to take it back to Eurocharged and get it hooked up to the comp...

Jake: Any ideas on what it may be would be greatly appreciated...and can you let me know when Jerry is getting back and could hook up the diag on the car...I can do after 5 any day this week or anytime Saturday...

EDIT: Could it be the intake temp sensor? Because other than that it may be a bad SC clutch in which case I am F'ed....then again, hopefully the comp reset will fix it.

I disconnected the battery tonight and am hoping resetting the ECU will fix the problem...

Philly, I'll post up what ended up being the fix for the problem...as I think you are seeing the same thing. Hopefully yours is just the pump.

I have a pump on the shelf, but it turned out to be the sensor, fixed under warranty, but it took the dealer 3 days to figure it out...go figure...good luck to you both...RokyPoky...the sensor didn't throw a code or turn a lt on so to speak, because it was intermitant...work for awhile, not work for a while...copy this post and take it with you...my dealer tried everything...and this was before I found this forum...everything they need to know is here on the forum...it will save you a lot time and arguing...good luck to you too

Well computer reset was about as helpful as I thought it would be.

Time to get eurocharged to change the sensor if they can...

Warranty is a foreign term for me...In service date 3/6/06...missed it by a month.
