Made a Rookie mistake up against a 997 Turbo
So I'm heading out of work today and see a 997 Turbo roll by. It's commonplace to see them around but generally their going in the opposite direction as me. I tail him to see where he goes and don't make a move at all to entice him. We make a turn at a light and he takes off briskly and I follow suit. We both come to a light side-by-side but the next light turns red so we gingerly make our way toward the Interstate turn-lanes prior to the onramp lights staying side-by-side. The onramp turn lanes have no one in them (rare) and the lights are sync'd up so when the current light goes green the other ones follow suit 5 or so seconds later.
The light goes green, we both halfway sprint toward the onramp so we know as soon as we hit the straightaway it'll be on. Well dumb me forgot to manually shift into a proper gear and left the car in 'D' so when we gunned it he was already in gear taking off and I had to let the car shift down when I smashed the gas.
He pulled a quick 3/4 car in front of me but by the time the lanes merged my front was right next to his side mirror, so I definitely made up a decent amount of ground and would have passed him had the onramp been longer. I shut down cause I didn't want to wreck.
This was my first real legit on-the-fly encounter and won't ever make that mistake again cause I probably would have beat him pretty good had I accelerated through the end of the turn in a proper gear and not hesitated (like he did).

All-in-all, I was still happy with the result of keeping up with a new Turbo cause the dude looked a little miffed as I passed him probably wondering what the heck was in my car.

Here's my run in. He redlighted I guess he didn't want to get tree'd even though it's almost a second faster. I seen him redlight and immediately took of after him. Gave him a run for 300' and then game over. Later that day he was in the 10.80's.

A dry sumped 3.6L 470hp engine. That's 120hp more than the SRT6 with All-Wheel Drive to boot
Good luck, but the XF isn't there yet! Maybe soon....
The only rookie mistake I see here is getting into a dangerous situation on a public street. Be careful out there, street racing is useless because there's never a "winner".

I had a guy in an S2000 taunting me with his buddy. They would pull beside me as to race then just stare...so I would smash a little to get away from the constant staring, but he would get on it to catch up and just pace me. I would juice it alittle but no dice from him. So finally he tails me and I just cut it loose and gone baby gone!! He never came close again.

Re: Made a Rookie mistake up against a 997 Turbo
I had a race with the new M3 on sunday from a roll at about 30mph, we were dead even to about 60-70mph before having to stop because of cars infront of us. I was shocked i thought the M3 was alot faster than that? I only have an intake.. We didnt get much of a run but i would have thought he would have lost me. He gave me the thumbs up as i did to him. Nice looking car..
