Hi,
I currently own a Magnum SRT8 and am looking for another SRT vehicle. I've been considering the Caliber SRT4 (to be honest, also considering VW GLI or GTI with DSG trans. too), but am not sure I want a manual as my daily driver. I've always been a fan of the crossfires, especially the SRT6, but always thought they'd be too much $ for my second car. Turns out there are some pretty good deals on these right now (good deals on all cars, really).

I was hoping to get some feedback, pros and cons, things that are very good and things that are not, regrets, etc from you all. I'm sure I'll love the powertrain (I'm amazed at the 1/4 mile times and traps with simple mods). I'm concerned about space (never had a two-seater), trunk space (looks like there's quite a bit though), maintenance costs (anyone purchase an extended warranty and have any idea on cost?), and some conveniences such as cupholders (I know, I know), satellite radio and bluetooth (easily added aftermarket).

I'd really love to hear any suggestions and feedback.

I can't think of any car that will give you more grins per dollar, nor a better car group than you'll find on this forum. Many who have had the misfortune of wrecking their SRT6 have gone out and bought another. I know that I would!

Contact beanerneon on this forum regarding MaxCare warranty purchase; he's given the best deals so far.

Also, it seems to me that if one of the top gripes about this car is a lousy cup holder, it's gotta be a helluva ride!

 

I also have the MSRT and I really enjoy the SRT6.
You will become addicted - the XF is a blast to drive.
I would have had one long ago if I had known.

 

The only real negative to the car is if you like to mod. There are not many vendors that make after market parts and there are still some modding issues that haven't been resloved yet but they are in the process of being solved. Positives you don't see them often, they are pretty quick and easy to work on for most things. Negatives are dealer support is basically nill and parts can be fairly expensive. If I had to do it all over again, I would still take it over the ZO6 I sold, and the viper I still have.

 

I traded my 300c srt8 for my srt6.........way more fun to drive and faster than my modified srt8.
You'll definitely have problems 'fitting' behind the wheel unless ur under 5-8 and especially after having driven the larger car. Takes getting used to.

Does anyone have any experience in winter or on less than perfect roads? I'll have to decide whether to use my SRT8 or SRT6, if I get it, as my primary "winter" car. It looks like rims/tires for winter may be an issue?

As far as mods go, it looks like from my reading that with just an intercooler pump, tune, supercharger pulley, and intake folks are making great horsepower and have 1/4 mile times in the low 12s with traps over 110....that seems like that would be plenty (for now...haha).

I am going to have to look into the warranty (although some of the used ones I see come with transferrable extended warranties).

i drive a 08 limited and i use it all year around on the stock continentals all season and with couple sand bags it did fine in missouri.

a dedicated 18" winter tire would not be a bad idea if you are up north. just pick up some used mercedes rims and slap it on there for the winter.

on the modding more or less drop down $1500-$2000 and you will be in the 12's

i did not get the srt6 since i wanted something with a full warranty and the price i paid for the car once i am done using the vehicle when i go to sell it or trade it in i should do pretty well on the depreciation since i got a blow out deal on brand new 08.

You want to buy a warranty with the vehicle so you are covered main issues is the i/c pump, seat heaters, and couple other minor things. look at the price of the warranty and decide but you want to have something for atleast 3 years so you do not have to pay anything but you monthly payments

 

I have an SRT-6 roadster and I absolutely love it. Mine is all stock but it's plenty fast for me. It's a blast to drive. It sounds and looks fantastic. I wouldn't trade it for anything...not a vette, not a Viper, not an Audi S-anything, BMW M-anything or any other Merc AMG. I did the SRT Track Experience and wouldn't trade my roadster for any of the SRT-8s, either. I love my car that much.

My only gripe is the clearcoat is very hard. That makes it hard to polish. As that's my only complaint, I really have no complaints.

(I love my Limited, too. It's not less than the SRT. It's just different.)

 

You're kidding right. I'm 6'2" and 250lbs and I fit in there fine. Infact it has more room then the RT/10

 

I don't like my knees riding under the steering wheel and I don't like sitting so close to the steering wheel that I resemble an 80 year old in a Crown Vic driving to the Walmart.

I love my SRT. I dont plan on ever getting rid of it. If it gets crashed it will be replaced as soon as I find another. The only problems I have had so far are one headlight fogged and the radio ate a cd.

I can tell you that the car is a Blast, You wont be disappointed, If you decide to get one! With a few mods you'll be able to Blow away alot of cars out there! Good luck in your search, and welcome to the forum....

 

At 6'3" I had to play with the seat a bit to be comfortable.
I think 6'4" would be too tall, but it would be worth the extra cost to lower the seat.

For an inexpensive tire that does fairly well year round, check out the General Exclaim UHP's.
Technically a 3 season tire, but it has a good rep in the snow. If you are up north, and you want to drive the SRT6 year round, I'd get a set of dedicated snow tires.

 

I love the SRT-6. A bit much to daily drive on harsh roads, I wouldnt put it through salty winters. IMO thats just stupid, its a limited production car and a $2000 neon will do better than an SRT-6. Why ruin a 1 of 900 or 1 of 2000 car with salt and sand.

Well, I went to drive one today. There is one on a local lot that is in pretty rough shape...but I wanted to sit in one, drive it, etc. I really is fun. It fits like a glove too. There is not a whole lot of room in there, but plenty for two. Here's a silly, but important, question: Can a golf bag fit in the back? haha. Seriously!!??
Even though the one I drove had the check engine light on, and had 40k miles or so, it was a blast.
Has anyone replaced the stock stereo with an all in one new unit that has sat radio, nav, I-pod, bluetooth, etc?

Yes one can on an angle. But you could always put them in the passenger side because you won't be taking a passenger unless they aren't going to play. Two sets won't fit in there unless there kids clubs.
